Anthony Elanga

Given our recent difficulty in finding wingers, and the fact VP wants to keep the bulk of the squad together and in that ‘family’ space, I’m starting to think we might just go back for Elanga.

He’s got to be done in Newcastle. They are a shit show.

If we can make the numbers work, might just be a good move for all sides.
I don’t doubt he may be done in Newcastle but objectively I’m not sure we can be looking down on them as a shit show

I think four managers and a plummet from
CL challenge to relegation battle is very much a glasshouse we shouldn’t be throwing stones in
At what stage did I say we weren’t a shit show this season……

But Elanga fits the current group and culture VP seems to want.

I admire your defense of our Geordie friends though. Heart warming.

Surely £20m and a surplus "world class" Scottish goalkeeper should do it?

I would say Reid was better in his second spell until the everlasting 2 weeks. And while Des was not what he once was - one of the best defenders in the world - no 37 year old who hadn't played for a year had any right being that good.
I think Reid was still a decent player when he returned to Forest but felt he was better and had more potential in his
first spell (he was outstanding in Paul Hart’s play-off team).

He had his best years away from Forest in the Premier League which was a crying shame as we had the opportunity to achieve something before the likes of Jenas,Prutton,Scimeca,Reid and Dawson were flogged off leaving us to face a bleak future with 3 years in League One.

AE is one of those players who clearly needs to be loved. Loved at Forest, obviously not at ManUre and NUFC.

At the time, I thought £55m was steep, given his limitations and his propensity to blow hot-and-cold.

I'm rarely ever in the 'bring 'em home' brigade (definitely not Brennan who, I think, has fallen off a cliff), but I'd love to see AE link up with VP. Can imagine him on the half-way line when we're under the cosh and our improved passing releasing him again and again. If £30m would do it, it's a no-brainer.

100%. Elanga may infact need to move back to the City Ground to get his confidence back and resurrect his career. He'd feel the love here, that's for sure.

Players work better in some systems and not others. I always felt it was weird Newcastle wanted him cause they play with possession and that’s not elanga. I don’t think Elanga will be that effective in a Vitor system. He very much suits a nuno style

"Our last stunt?" They benefitted from that deal as much as we did at the time, it wouldn't have happened otherwise

It's only because Anderson's rise in the last two years has been so incredible and he's worth more now than they ever anticipated that they regret it
We might as well have sold them Harry Arter or Bong, other players are also available, we haven't been short of them.

Is like buying a BMW for 40k and putting down a beat up fiesta as 25k in part ex.

Can't even be bothered to debate this

Just google "Anderson Vlachodimos Newcastle PSR" if you're interested in learning why the deal benefitted both parties

It's a silly point anyway as Elanga isn't a Newcastle academy graduate so it isn't comparable

I know perfectly well why the exchange was made. I am just saying Anderson might have been a 10m overpay, but Vlach was a 20m easily.

The came off worse and that's not after the event, most of us were very happy with the deal at the time.

PSR machinations aside what it boils down to is they didn't see his potential and came off worse because they let a great player go for less than what he ended up being worth

As has ever been the risk
