tbf what did he expect? Even if he was initially lined up and JV was an afterthought, he was still coming as backup to Sels, and wouldn't be considered likely to get many games unless Sels was injured or suspended?

Depends how the move was sold to him I suppose. If he was told he'd be second fiddle to Sels and then within a few weeks go and sign a player who jumps ahead of him I think he's got a right to be annoyed.

If you read his quotes in the interview, it's clear that he was told he would be number 2 but expected to get minutes in cup games etc. He obviously didn't expect to oust Sels any time soon.
It did seem odd at the time that he would take a number 3 position at his age.

Well yeah, so the issue here is that we got knocked out of the cup early and that JV usurped him as 2nd choice.
I guess Sels is going to be first choice for PL and EL no matter who is 2nd choice.
Guess this highlights the issue about a 2nd/3rd choice keeper who actually wants to play. It's not even always the case the 2nd / 3rd choice plays in LC and FAC games.
Says a lot that whilst England's keeper situation is still a bit shit that Scotland and Wales are both struggling to find someone good enough who is a first team regular. Pretty much all the PL 1st choices aren't British (aside for Pope, Henderson and Pickford I think) which would be an issue for Gunn.

It's not a great way to deal with someone really, on a human level. When everything is going against us little things like this won't help as who knows what sort of impact it has on the dressing room? Just because he's 3rd choice keeper and therefore not particularly high on our list of priorities as fans it doesnt mean he's not popular amongst the players. In fact I think I heard Yates recently say Gunn was in this coffee club they have going.
And admittedly it was a small sample size but it's not like John Victor looked incredible when he played either.
