Angelos „Ange“ Postecoglou

Just seen part of Postecoglou on the Overlap when he talks about his Forest stint, quite an interesting and honest view.
He was honest. For those that haven't seen it, he essentially says it was a mistake accepting the role and he totally understood why he was sacked. He took the job because of the quality of player and the fact we were in Europe.

I'm probably in the minority here and this is total conjecture but for me if the situation was reversed and Dyche was manager for the games Ange had, and Ange had the games Dyche has had, we wouldn't be in a relegation battle right now.

I think the same of Pereira tbh.
Dyche had the absolute worst set of games for Dyche.

Everything that could have went wrong did go wrong for him here, starting off with 4 away games (how did Swansea come back? It was like a rigged game of Fifa the way the ball seemed to be sucked into the net 3 times) - but the most important and honest truth that he said was "Nobody wanted rid of Nuno". Not the owner, the players or the fans.

Whoever was taking over from Nuno was on a beating to nothing despite our anger about how it ended, the point was we were all absolutely gutted at what transpired from pre-season, especially the players.

And Ange had 5 league games including 3 teams in the knockouts of the Champions League, two of which were away and one of those was within a couple of days of taking over. At the time we were pissed off about losing to Sunderland but we missed so many chances (story of his reign) and as it turns out were up against a proper team.

Even his home Europa League game turned out to be against one of the better sides in the competition.

I'm not saying he's would've become the second coming of Clough or anything but I do think once it clicked it would've been a lot better than what Dyche served up.

Two things went against Ange and one was self-inflicted.

1. Not making any attempts through the media to endear himself to the fanbase and the city which was was Dyche did instantly.

2. His first 7 games went Saturday, Wednesday, Saturday, Wednesday, Saturday, Thursday, Sunday. That's 7 games in 22 days so basically zero training time.

He also said that Forest probably didn't want to sack Nuno either which shows that he wasn't tapped up before the whole Nuno fiasco.

I actually think the Swansea game did more damage to Ange's reign than meets the eye. I know it's only the mickey mouse cup but the way it unfolded was absolutely mind-boggling.

We/he never recovered from the unprofessionalism of not seeing that game out. I myself didn't sleep last night after watching it. We should've scored six or seven.

Going back to the podcast, I wonder if he is on gardening leave so cannot actually say anything disparaging?

Annoyingly, though not surprisingly, he still reverts back to Tottenham when he's speaking about the Forest reign. He just can't seem to let that one go.

McAtees miss from literally 5 yards in the same game against Swansea has just came back to me. Jesus goal that night is possibly my favourite Forest goal since Rada Majewskis against WBA in 2010. It was a work of art.

And much of that move included the "B" team, Bakwa, McAtee, Savona.

What an absolute mind melting season this has been.

Absolutely. It was a class team goal.

I remember thinking we had a player in Bakwa that night, he shown flashes of real quality. Since then it's been Bakwa-rd.

He comes across as a decent bloke I think and did before he was with us which is why his aloofness was surprising whilst he was here. Lovely story about growing up Greek in Australia too.

Yeah he comes across a lot better in this interview than he ever did whilst at Forest.

He definitely had a tough start in terms of fixtures, and the missing of chances has continued, but ultimately I think the set piece defending under him was so shambolic that it's hard to see how he could ever have been a success here.

I really like the guy.

It was a case of wrong time, wrong place for us & him - but still I'll forever be grateful for the 30mins or so of that 1st Half vs Betis. It was elite football. Best I've ever seen us play. And makes a mockery of the argument that the squad is only good enough for Dyche Ball.

We were basically his rebound. He felt aggrieved at getting the sack at Spurs (maybe rightly seeing as though they're in the same place this season) and bounced straight back with us to show Spurs what they're missing. He didn't really take into account anything to do with our club and it showed and it's a good reason why it was a disaster. I'm just glad he's honest about it, I can't see Dyche being anywhere near as honest or self reflective.

I never had a problem with the guy hes just a terrible coach. Hes a crap coach because his sides dont do the basics. Put it this way Dyche is a terrible tactician and coach but still did much better than Ange. Why? Because Dyche actually cared about set pieces and defensive organisation. Its a slight on Ange that some gobby northampton lad who knows less about tactics can get more points than him.

Reminds of Montanier untimatley all fart no shit. If Ange has better players than the other sides hell do well but if he hasnt he has an almighty task on his hands. The biggest shame of this season was Ange was the precisely the right style of manager but we just needed a much better version of him 😒 The squad wasnt built for Nuno or Dyche it was built for an Ange type manager. If we got Silva or Iraiola, I bet wed be safe and less people would be talking about Edu losing his job.

It is the best I have ever seen us play which makes me laugh also that Dyche was abale to get more points than him. If I were Ange knowing that id take a long long look in the mirror and his coaching methods.

He’s a clown who paid zero attention to set pieces or defensive shape, if he was somehow still employed here we’d be cemented in the bottom 3. It’s nice of him to finally mention Forest though, maybe if he did that once or twice when we were paying his wages he may have got a little bit of slack for how shite we were.

30 minutes in Spain of looking decent doesn’t change the fact we won 0 out of 8 games under him. Dyche may have took a safety first approach to football every week but he did something Ange could only dream of and won games of football for Nottingham Forest.

Also the 30 minutes in Spain shouldn't be used a a defence really. We played well for 90 minutes at home against Spurs under Dyche.

The players are capable of it just not in any way consistent.

He must be the first person to win the Europa league without bothering with set pieces or defending.
First person to win the Scottish treble without bothering with set pieces of defending
First person to win J League without bothering with set pieces or defending
First person to coach his national team without bothering with set pieces or defending....

He's done pretty well to establish a career for himself given how clueless he clearly is about set pieces and defending

Maybe we shouldn’t have sacked neither and had co managers. Ange coaches attacking and Dyche defence. Might have worked.

The one thing I will say is it would have been difficult for any manager having four away games as their first four matches in charge

If we'd had an easy couple of home wins in those games for example he'd probably have got a bit more leeway

Not really bothered how reflective he is or how he shouldn't have taken the job.
He did
And currently he is responsible for being the worse manager in teh clubs history - and i use manager "loosely" as he is a bloody fraud.

Incidentally, he always reminded of the dad in Dinosaurs
