Andy O'Brien can leave Bolton for the Championship
Published 23:00 08/11/09 By Alan Nixon

Bolton boss Gary Megson is ready to let defender Andy O'Brien leave in the next transfer window - if he wants to join a Championship outfit.

The experienced centre-half, 30, is out of the Wanderers side this season and Megson has blocked recent attempts to take him on loan as he is the next man in line for a game.

However the former Newcastle United stalwart can head off from the Reebok in the New Year as a reward for his loyalty - with Megson looking to promote his replacement from within.

I don't see why not, would be a good addition to our squad. Isn't he also a Republic of Ireland international?

No no no no no no no.

One of the game's great charlatans, how he's managed to carve out a top flight career on the back of some idle sympathy from an aging Bobby Robson is beyond me.

That's endorsement enough for me - we should definitely try and sign him if Dellaroc thinks he's that bad!

I spoke to a Bolton fan and a Newcastle fan today. Both attend matches on a regular basis and have done so for some time.

When I asked this question:

"Is Andy O'Brien any good?"

Both of them answered with this:

"No."

The Bolton fan added that he's easily their worst defender and can't believe he still makes a living as a footballer.

Will always keep his eye on the ball though . . . .

Standing at only 5' 10" would worry me if he was to play at Centre Back.

If Bolton fans don't rate him, who is going to be his number one fan?

Matt Mills anyone?

He made his choice - he chose Reading over us because he thought they were going places - and they are - DOWN.

He's not pulled up many trees for Reading but it saved us £2.5 million quid that Donny wanted from us - so neigh..............let him rot.

Same with Barker mate - **** em'.

Did he choose Reading over us though?

I don't think we ever had a bid accepted, so there was never a decision to make.
