you just beat me too it

The Star has us in for Swansea's midfielder (left winger, I think) at £750k

He was their best threat when we played and getting him would be awesome.

It is the Star, though. Pinch of salt. Etc

Andrea Orlandi Stabilin (born 3 August 1984 in Barcelona, Catalonia) is a Spanish football Midfielder.
Andrea Orlandi Stabilin is a highly-rated and versatile 24-year-old midfielder. The Spaniard's natural position is on the left hand side of the pitch. His versatility has been shown already in his short career ; Orlandi is more suited to left midfield but has played in a competitive game at LB for Barcelona in La Liga. The Barcelona born product slotted in at Left Back against Athletic Bilbao on the 20 May 2006. He can also play as a striker and has a deft cross in his armoury.
Despite being owned by Deportivo Alavés, the Estadio Mendizorrotza based outfit sent him out on loan to FC Barcelona.
He had made 66 appearances for FC Barcelona B at his time at the Mini Estadi. Frank Rijkaard was impressed with the 23 year old and called him up to the first team. He has participated in the Copa Catalunya for Barcelona albeit in a weakened side. He massively impressed in that game with assists for both Barcelona's goals in their Copa Catalunya win.
The Spaniard has also has had a spell with Super League Greece side Aris Saloniki.
Orlandi has been a long term transfer target of Swansea City's manager, Roberto Martínez. It was announced on transfer deadline day that the Spaniard had moved from Deportivo Alavés on a free transfer to South Wales.
Orlandi can play anywhere down the left or up front, and has signed a one-year deal at the Liberty Stadium with an option to extend his stay.

We need a left winger, though.

We need a left back much more at the moment , on the left when we have Tyson , Cohen & Anderson all able to play there , there's not really a big issue.

Ture we need a left back.

But I don't think any of the above options are good enough on the left wing for where we aspire to be. Tys is a striker - he can be effective on the wing, but more often isn't. Ando has no left foot, Cohen just isn't a winger.

Would be a great addition to the squad. Would give us different dimensions down the flanks thats for sure

It's a bigger issue than you're making it out to be. Tyson and Cohen are not wide midfielders, never will be, and don't particular play well in that position anyway. Anderson and McCleary are both right footed.

A dedicated left mid would give us options and balance. If one of Anderson or McCleary suffers a long term injury, and one of them plays and isn't producing, we have no fast wide option left on the bench anymore.

Then you should ask why Davies persist in playing a left footed Cohen on the right and right footed Anderson on the left ?
Cohen may not be a winger but he can play down that left hand side comfortably enough , don't need to be a winger because Davies always wants his players to be helping out in defence as well. Why do you think he persists with Garner so long on the right ?

When Cohen plays on the left/right we lose balance to the side. He'll do for now but we need a left sided player much more than a central one.

We have no natural left winger at present, Cohen is a central midfielder, Anderson is a right winger and Tyson is a striker by trade.

In central midfield we have Cohen, McKenna, McGugan, Moussi, Majewski, McGoldrick and Thornhill although the latter is leaving. If you want to play by the rules you are with the left wingers then you can include Perch, Garner and Chambers who have all featured in a central midfield role at some point this season.

Left back is priority, then left wing and anything else is a bonus.

Bale left wing, Shorey left back.....would be the most obvious pair.

Orlandi, well, I am sure Billy has put at least 3 left wing and 3 left back names with the acquisition panel, and he will expect 1 of each to be signed on loan or permanent in January.

Probably Billy has added in a couple of Centre Back names as well, along with possible other midfield names, although I expect us to sign at least 1 left sided midfielder and 1 left back as a minimum.

750k for someone who's contract is expiring in the summer is too expensive.

It depends though really. If he is the best we can get for that amount of money then this is the kind of season I'd pay it. If we were midtable neither looking up nor down I'd wait until the end of the season and try to pick him up for free but when a few additions to the squad could potentially be the difference between us crossing the line into the top flight or not it's worth the gamble.

Depends how you look at it. For arguments sake lets say our two main targets for left wing are Orlandi and Charlie Adam. The rumoured price for Adam was double Orlandi's but he's not twice the player. If we get a good player signed on a long contract and they help us to the Premiership it dosn't really matter what his Swansea contract is.

I don't see us paying that. We haven't in the past. Why would we now?

Many people (inlcuding me) thought £750k was too much for a 31 year old holding midfielder in the summer. We were all wrong.

Billy knows what he's doing.

I didn't think 750k on McKenna was too much at the time. It was obvious that we badly needed a captain on the field and we needed experience , McKenna provided both.

He does, but better still, he has no say over prices, he simply states which players have the desired attributes to benefit Forest. The board will decide the correct fee for a player who's contract is expiring, although as far as I know McKenna's wasn't so it's not a particularly good comparison.

Hypothetically if Davies was in full charge he might well be prepared to splash the 750k Swansea wanted for him as it's not his money and therefore no skin off his nose, whereas the board won't be held to ransom for any player, and regardless of who manages the club now or in the future we wil be financially sound

The only bids forest are known for are desirory bids so it wouldn't be surprising.

Honestly , can't see this happening. He's not even the star at swansea.
