Am I the only one...

... who prefers the idea of getting loan signings in February to making permanent signings in January?

I mean, it worked out alright for us last year, didn't it? Surely the loan market gives teams a better chance of signing Premiership-quality players - such as Gunter - with a chance of the moves becoming permanent in the summer if they work out well? Less risk involved, no signing fees (at this stage), better quality players, and a 'probationary' period that allows both parties to see if they're right for each other before committing long-term... what's wrong with any of that?

The way people have been panicking and grumbling at the prospect of us not signing Moses or the like seems crazy to me. If we don't sign anyone by tomorrow evening, don't all start getting on the Acquisition Panel's case - just look at the bigger picture and keep the faith.

Every year the January transfer window brings panic and bloated expectations to fans from all clubs.

Selling clubs are able to inflate the price, knowing a deadline is approaching..............................bad business and a poor working practise all round.

You may not be the only one, but because of the play-off dates we'll have to hang on for probably another month during which there a good few games every bit as important as the others. Why miss out on players you could have had for an extra month if you've just got your finger out? We are in urgent need of at least one left-sided player and have been for a year or so now. Why should we have any faith that that will be better addressed by an 'emergency loan' system than by a permanent transfer system, and why should we be waiting an extra month (which covers a good 13% of the season) to address the problem anyway when it has been apparent for so long?

Totally agree. The usual panic is crazy and there seems to be a genuine belief with a fair amount of people that not signing anyone in the window is a 'failure', whether we need a player or not. And people have zero patience either.

Yes you are the only one.

You sad poor lonely bastard.

You smell and what's worse, there is no one else to tell you that you smell. So you will go on smelling and never find that friend you crave. Then, if you made a friend, the first thing they would have to tell you was that you smell. It hardly makes for a great long lasting friendship does it?

Your best friend thinks that you stink. Now piss off and find another forum loser.

Actually, I'm a bit of a forum loser myself. If you didn't smell, we could be friends.

No
Shorey on loan in Feb until the end would be great work. Then go on a spending bonanza during the world cup when no ones looking ;D

Good thinking! Now my memory might be a bit hazy on this, but didn't we sign Bryan Roy on the strength of his performances in the 1994 World Cup for a bargain price (less than £3m as I recall)? Let's hope history repeats itself and we get promoted back to the Premier League just as World Cup fever is kicking in, and end up beefing up our side with ace Dutch strikers!

Actually, we got promoted in 1998 as well, didn't we? As in, just before the World Cup in France. We signed Pierre van Hooijdonk round about the same time... maybe it's an omen!

All I asked was to secure Shorey till the end of the season so naturally I'm a bit dissapointed but yes I agree with the principal of this thread,it is very difficult to do business in January. The mercenarys usually go on the hunt for a move, and we won't take them and they won't take our basic salary plus we won't pay over the odds for players, a nightmare for a club like us trying to get new recruits in. Definately best off in the loan market as long as we intend to make them more long term come summer time.

If we want Shorey on loan for the rest of the season, we have to get him before tomorrow, otherwise we can only have him for another month as we have already used up 2 months out of the old 93 days.

Having read most of the articles in the Sundies and seeing that no one else wants to be associated with the guy (including some of his team mates) then I say let's make a smash & grab raid on John Terry - I personally couldn't care less who he's been porking.
