Alternate chat room for matchdays?

For the last few matches every time we play the server crashes due to hundreds of "guests" searching for non-existent feeds of the game (which as per the rules, we don't provide anyway even if they do exist) so is there anywhere we could make a free chat room that the regular users could bookmark for when the forum goes down?

For me, if I can't get to the game, the chat room is the next best thing and I always enjoy a bit of banter, and look forward to TBT's "jiggles".

It's not the same listening to matches without it :(

It's really f***ing me off too. It seems some random news of non-existant feeds seems to circulate around guests. the forum crashes for the usual users and it ruins it for regulars who wnat to chat as usual. Nothing against any of the site admin etc as they do an amazing job, but the site seems to become a quick fix for browsers at times.

It's not thew same without a m------UXKINGDEXTERBLACSTOCKYEAHMOTHERFUCKERYEAH thrown in here or there ;D

Stu has created a new chat-room which should be less cumbersome on the server - it's accessible by clicking the button above :)

Also, i'm sure Stu said that he has starting closing the forum to guests on matchdays?

That's a good idea. It was a nightmare on Tuesday night

Correct me if I'm wrong . . . .

When we have a thread for example 'Birmingham City vs Nottingham Forest match streams' it can come up on Google as a match. Google searches for not only the popular websites but the best matches to what the user has entered, so when people see that LTLF is displaying something that matches their search they log on, even if the thread leads nowhere.
Surely getting rid of the thread will ease this problem as it hasn't really been an issue before. I'm sure admin will be able to confirm or deny but it seems we have had 100's of new people sign up and I believe it's through people matching us to Google searches.

Are we not part of our own problem ?

There's a thread on this in the Subscribers forum.

I'm sure it's time you two joined up considering the amount of server time you take up. :-*

Trouble is, generally speaking, Google hits are a good thing for the forum.

I understand we need to have a chat room with a link to the forum for everyone to use but one that doesn't interfere with our current server. Get me, Mrs Technical.

The temporary solution which has replaced the old Chat is ok for the moment and I'm sure that Stu will make it look as pretty as the last one when he has the time and can be arsed.

Another forum I post on only lets patron members post during what it calls 'peak hours' ... maybe we could restrict hours guests can view the forum during matchdays ?

I understand that, I'm just thinking about the specific keywords that would link people to the site, who only want streaming links.

'Forest v XXXXX stream' would attract those only after the streams where as ' Nottingham Forest forums/messageboards/banter' would get those who are generally interested in what we are all here for.

Yeah, but if we delete the threads that say that in them more will appear :S

Tricky one. Currently if people search for streams on here they find threads saying they won't find 'em...

I might have a prune at some point and see if it helps.

I can see you point about if they are deleted then a new one will appear, kind of a catch 22

Where's your star? :p
The star was for a different thing as I recall. As a subscriber you get access to all the other features that the non subscribers can't see - as well as the monthly comps and stuff.

The star was originally introduced to show which members supported LTLF in our efforts to sponsor Robert Earnshaw last season.

As Erik quite rightly pointed out the people who subscribe/donate now get access to the additional areas and extra competitions.

So what are these subscriptionc/ donation options then ?
