Smith told the Chronicle: “I don’t know how it was a booking – I just put it back to where it was.
“The referee said to me at half time, 'I won’t book you for anything you do in the second half, because it’s not a booking’.
“It’s one of those things – he apologised at half-time for it, but he can’t take it off, unfortunately.
“It wasn’t even a booking.
“The referee apologised, but he can’t take it away. I’ll get on with it.
“Bookings, suspensions, sendings off are going to happen in this league – there’s a lot of games. “
If Smith's comments are true it is absolutley appaling. I felt when watching the game that Newcastle were getting a lot of decisions in their favour. Referees shouldn't be watching replays at half time and if they have made a mistake they are supposed to call the game as they see it. Not try to even things up.
If he told Smith he wouldn't book him second half that is cheating, pure and simple.
