Adebola at Centre Back - Anyone!!!

PSR

I know Billy Davies doesn't like playing players out of position and all that (square pegs etc.) but I wonder if Adebola's ever played in the back four - I seem to remember Birtles in his later years playing at CB and I remember Kenny Burns when he was at Birmingham switching from striker to a centre back.

Adebola's height with his heading ability could help us at for the time being if he has ever played there before and we have enough strikers not to miss him.

Might be worth a try, especially against Bradford.

I still think we're more likely to see Cohen and McCleary at full-backs - seeing as Davies tried this in pre-season, with Lynch and Morgan in the centre.

However, could be a fall-back plan if (god forbid) we pick up another injury.

And as for Davies not liking square pegs in round holes, he has shown that he does prefer that option to putting youngsters in the team.

Personally I'd rather we let the youngsters fill in against Bradford, I'm honestly not too fussed about the Carling Cup.

However it's imperitive that we've got at least one more defender in by Saturday.

Can't we just sign some f***ing defenders? This was supposed to be the season we didn't have to picnic. Where we finished mid table without a worry or a care in the world!

So would I. However Davies has shipped out all the ones who were on the fringes, leaving us with a bunch who really aren't ready for it. In some ways he's made a rod for his own back...

I think we'd all prefer that, but it's obviously not going to happen before tonight's game.

And who next will be holding us to ransom and inflating the price knowing of our desperate situation.

Agreed.

This competition is the ideal time to blood some young lads. Over the years, Forest have missed this opportunity.

With the reserves now gone, here is Billy's chance to do it as he said he wanted the young lads playing against higher calibre players other than reserve football.

this would be the same situation as Gareth Taylor a few seasons back

i seem to remember although his heading ability was second to none his positioning and all the things vital fora centre half were to put it nicely crap so this could be the same with Adebola.

i wouldnt do it personally back 4 tomorrow will be Mcleary Morgan Lynch and Cohen

If we need to accelerate a young defender into the first team, Wednesday night against Bradford is the ideal time to do it. Unless we get drawn against a big premier league side, or get a game on tv, the League Cup is not worth bothering about.

Have they closed all of the catering outlets at the CG?

I personally don't think it is the time to blood any youngster - If we are to play Lynch & Wes in the centre with McCleary & Cohen as the full backs we need them to be working together and getting some experience together for the West Brom game come Saturday.

I thought Aaron Mitchell did well against County pre-season and would be worth a run out tomorrow.

Totally agree, Michael Dawson came in for the league cup game against Kidderminster at the start of the 02/03 season. Won 4-0 and kept his place from then on. Not saying he'll be that good but he's gotta start tomorrow to give him a chance.

It's on Wednesday evening for deffnate.

As is always the case, the League is and should be our priority. We should be playing to win this game only I wouldn't be surprised if Billy minimises any further injury risk factor and plays a few of the young 'uns.

As for playing Adebola at the back, I've really no idea what he can do but I'm sure it's something that will be considered.

What's Paul Smith like as a player? Can he play a defending role? Would be interesting to have two keepers on the field. ;D

No offence but just a plain terrible idea, Adebola may be big and win some headers but can you imagine him tracking a man, diving across a man to block shots or putting in some proper tackles? I can't. An inexperienced centre-half would be a better option to me because even if they do lack experience they have spent the majority if not all of their career training towards doing what defenders do.

It would be better than having 20,000 keepers in the crowd.

I'd expect Jordan Fairclough to play with Mitchell in the middle and LYnch staying on the left.

He'd probably come out and give a penalty away by catching the ball for the first time ! ;D

He may be big and strong, but I doubt he will do a better job than any other players. Lynch at the back with Wes and the 2 lads already mentioned. At least their roles require an element of defending on their best sides.

We have needed a big strong unit for years to play up front along side a pacey striker, this season we have just that in Adebola/Ernie - Mcgoldrick. So why put the big man at the back?? Stupid idea!
