Adebola And Fitness

I couldn't believe how fit the Forest team looked last night, even into extra time Paul MC Kenna was chasing every ball,Blackstock was running up and down to help the team with his defensive duties and ease the pressure well into injury time.Cohen looked pretty sharp last night after a slow start to the season and Majewski had that bit of class to ensure we won the midfield battle.I have to say the team last night looked that they had immense fitness levels compared to Middlesborough who looked tired with 5 minutes still left to play in Normal Time.

I thought soon as Bamberdele Adebola came on he change the game with his hold up play and he really unsettled the 2 centre backs for Boro.I think in certain games this season Adebola will become a major asset due to the fact that not many teams will be able to cope with his power and strength. Also it was great play to set up Majewski for the goal to take us through to the 3rd round.

Great performance lads let now do the same againest Derby!!!!!!

I must admit, our high level of fitness was even evident from the radio commentary. Middlesbrough sounded knackered during the second half and we just kept it going well into extra time. Adebola must have had three Shredded Wheat.

It appears that all the hard training is paying off and if this gives us that extra edge then I'm all for more whip cracking.

We all know how demotivating a goal can become and how adrenaline pumps that extra power into tired legs. Let's hope we have enough steam in those engines to keep us going.

Adebola was rock solid last night. Time after time, he got the ball, and held it up so well. When he decided to shield the ball to buy time, they simply couldn't take it off him.

I did notice he spent a lot of time on his arse at QPR, trying to win free-kicks from every little nudge. There was much less of this last night, although when he went down in the box, I didn't see a foul.

Fitness levels were great, as mentioned. I know McKenna is getting on a bit, but he was still chasing down the ball and really hassling players until the end.

Not really related, but we could have had another one or two goals towards the end... the levels of fitness and desire seemed to be there right until the end.

Boro were knackered in the second half - their midfield just disappeared and we ran the game.

This was even more apparent in extra time (especially after Raddi's goal) as we just held the ball and worked it around and they couldn't get it off us.

Thought Adebola was magnificent, and Dexter Blackstock (after 120 minutes of running) still looked like he could play for another hour!

Really, really positive result in advance of this weekend game against the Sheep.

I didn't think our fitness was anything outstanding last night I just thought Boro's was poor.

Certain players still looked tired at times including Gunter and Cohen, Anderson and Earnshaw also looked to be flagging a little before going off but they have all had a lot of games recentlyso it's understandable to an extent.

For such a big player he does have some decent pace. The fact he is 34 years old now makes it even more shocking!!

Let's talk about Wes Morgan's performance last night?

It was great when he skinned one of their defending players by the corner flag as we were attacking - literally ran rings around him.

He had 1 or 2 tricky runs through the centre too. Absolutely great match for him.

The reception he gets from the crowd when he starts moving upfield is immense.

He obviously is a massive asset in the later stages of a match when we're 1 up, he held it up and ran it in the corners so effectively. Although at times his touch was poor - maybe due to him being a bit knackered.

And, as someone has already mentioned, he still has a fair bit of pace for a big 34 year old.

He's played quite a few minutes in the last few weeks and I think it showed at times last night, but still, very effective.

I didn't watch the game last night, but as soon as we conceded I thought we would be out of it.

The team has deffinately changed for the better since CC left and not just because of the players brought in, we seem to have a lot more fight about us and we definately seem fitter :)

Every new manger we have the usual thing they say is that "They are not fit enough" Megson said it,CC said it and now Davies but it seems Davies has got the team extremely fit.

I bet if we still had Commons, BD's regime or whatever he is doing to make the team so fit would mean that Commons wouldnt be a fat bastard.

Also under CC he seemed more laid back about training, while BD himself gets stuck in!

Addison at Derby is a very uncultured player and relies on his size rather than his ability to stop strikers, if we played Adebola he'd chew him up and spit him out. Would be the perfect player to play in the circumstance especially with the experience he'd hold over him. Couple that with someone like McGoldrick running onto his flick ons, Majewski pulling the strings and two zippy wingers in Tyson and Anderson whipping in balls for two players we know we can score with their heads we could score 10 or more

Fitness plays such a huge part in a long season. Really pleased that we are looking good on this side of things. The same can't be said for previous seasons. Hopefully the players are so fit that they can run around like lunatics when we bang in the 5th against Derby in the final couple of minutes...!
