Joined on ‘training compensation’ according to Fabrizio - can someone explain what this means.
It's the standard FIFA formula for compensation when an out of contract young player moves clubs.
His former clubs from age 12 to 21 are compensated a set amount based on the level of their academy system, and on how long he spent at each of them.
Basically it'll be under a hundred grand.

I don’t really follow the youth team much but I wonder if we might see that Sillah lad start to break through into the first team this season? He was on the bench for the last game of last season and from what little I’ve seen from him in highlights, he’s looks like he could have potential.
Other than him I’m not sure if there is anyone else close. Sinclair maybe?
Feels about time we saw someone from the youth team make a step up.

The little I've seen of Sillah over here did not spell out "Premier quality", but maybe he's advanced more than seemed normal.
In any case, you really need to have some input from the academy to the first team, difficult as this objectively is.

We've signed Kasen Brown from Manchester City. He's a talented lad and I believe Man Utd were after him too. He's a defender and I've watched him on a few occasions whilst scouting and he's got a bright future.
I won't mention who the teams are but there is some massive money flying around and exchanging hands at Academy level between a few clubs and not necessarily the clubs you'd expect. I know there's a couple of others on here that also have their hand in the scouting/academy scene and they'll probably know what I'm talking about.

Not the 'big' teams either, who seem to be quite screwed down with recruitment now, we're spending an amount which is expected with a club our size, especially with the improvements the club want to make overall (which, is, what I'm led to believe, is partly behind the reason for Joyce leaving).

He is a serious player. Obviously people develop differently, but he's miles ahead of where Brennan and Mighten were at his age. West Bridgford lad as well.

Yes, you know what I'm talking about then. It's not the usual culprits people might think but another clutch of teams that are spending big in this area. Even the big clubs are baulking at it and can't believe the spend.
I don't want to speak out of turn with Warren Joyce but I don't think the output was what the club expected. Not all of that is his fault though, I think we've both spoken on here about the lack of genuine talent and the next batch would take 3 or 4 years to come through. It's been obvious for a while that we were going to need to buy talent in for the 16's, 17's 18's.

I'm guessing it's quite an easy gamble for owners to make. The cost doesn't count against PSR / SCR so there's no limit on what they spend but if they manage to develop one or more and sell on then the transfer fee does. Sounds like it is the new fad after the buying cheap from abroad and selling on a la Brighton and co.

On your other point, I know a few instagram accounts have been talking about larger numbers of u14s "deregistering" this off-season compared to previous years, including some big names (for that level). I believe this minimises compensation or something if they move? So it doesn't surprise me at all what you are saying about big fees flying around. When you can get 30-40m for fairly mediocre players at 20-23 yo, it is inevitable that clubs start looking at younger and younger players as potential gold mines, getting in parents' ears etc.
As usual, the suits won't act until it's too late. I have said for a while now that I think clubs should be strictly limited on youth numbers. I think they should also have to commit financially to a period of training even if the player is released. So for example if a player is released at 15 from a Cat 1, they should continue to pick up a certain training cost (wage etc) so a Cat 2 or 3 club can essentially give them a chance for another couple of years for free.
It cant only be one way traffic with EPPP and big clubs pilfering the best talent from below - they should help support those lesser players they release into lower academies. The numbers of players leaving the game entirely at 16 has been, and continues to be, absolutely bonkers when you consider a) how good these kids are for their age and b) how close they are to adulthood/a career. There must be so much talent lost to the English game.

I'm not sure what the reasons for him leaving were although I do know Man Utd also wanted him and there was a lot of competition for his signature. I'm assuming he was at the end of his contract.

Boyd Fraser has joined from Hearts. That's another really good signing for the academy, this lad has been looked at by most top clubs.
