A shameful past?

In todays era of Premiership and Champions League football are we now all of a sudden ashamed of the past achievements of clubs like Forest and for that matter Villa?

It seems that the BBC, Sky and ITV only ever talk about Champions League era and since the inception of the Premier League.

I for one would like Forest to incorporate the Chmpaions League stars/trophy on ALL kits and badges and ram it down the throats of the ManUtd brigade.

We won it and won it again!

I bet there are prem players today who don't have a clue about what Forest did as a club. The coming season should be the time to stamp it on everything!

I honestly don't think anyone involved in football is unaware of what Forest achieved in the past.

To not be aware of what we'd achieved, would mean not being aware of who Brian Clough is, and I don't think there could possibly be anyone involved in football who doesn't know who he is.

Forest are an example of a club achieving through ambition and ability, rather than the 'bought success' that teams have to emply now. We're an example, and possibly the last example, of a club achieving something thought unfeasible.

Our winning of the European Cups would be, given the huge gulf now between 1st and 5th, like Fulham or Wigan winning it.

People know, and don't need it 'ramming down their throats'. We have, thus far, carried our achievements with an sir of dignity, that I don't personally think should be ramped up a notch and 'rammed down someones throat'.

Whilst we have had the highs, we have also had dismal lows. We've had more seasons in division 3 than we have won European Cups.

Me, I'd have European cup wins on one sort of badge, and "Champions League" (*spits) wins on a second-rate different sort of badge, since it's a second-rate, different sort of competition.

I know a lot of teams think forest fans just do nothing but go on about winning the European cup twice.. where really it's mostly the media and the other teams keep mentioning it.

having such a successful history is nothing to be shameful of... i personally don't think we go on about it to much and we should show it, but that crap that forest fans are living in the past is a load of shit. we are proud of the cups we have won but we do live in the present !

From my experience, the only people who bang on about our European Cups are Lesdar fans who have a go at us for "constantly mentioning it"!! Obviously, compared to their League Cup win in 1997 it is nothing.

But yeah, I understand Forest don't get much of a mention, but for the past 8 or 9 years we've been a poor team, got our death sentence of 3 years in the Doldrums, and now we've survived and are starting to look like we can build some stability.

Hopefully when we are challenging for a return to the prem, the media may well recognise our past achievements, but to be honest right now I'm happy they don't, or I'd never hear the end of it from my bin dipper housemate

In 1979 1980 European Cup win i know we can't pick who we play, but looking at how come Malmo got to the 1979 final to play us? Where were the likes of Benfica,Bayern Munich,Barcelona,Real Madrid,Ac Milan,Inter Milan,Juventus etc etc

Because you had to be champions to be in it. So only 4 of those teams could be in (unless they were the holders)

You also had to win every game to get through.

I think that it should be mentioned that

WE WON THE EUROPEAN CUP TWICE

I was there and I am proud of the fact - why should it be something to be ashamed of, we did it we were the best team in europe for a few years and that part of history can never be overwritten no matter how the media choose to present it

no offence, but "stars" on shirts are cheap and tacky gestures and we should save that crap for clubs like liverpool. was disappointed when they put them on.

the cloughie quote on the back is quality tho

they arent cheap or tacky - they are the symbol of a small, relatively insignifcant club becoming the pinnacle of world football for a couple of years under the tutelage of the greatest footballing mind that has ever graced the game

if it was an official thing i wouldn't mind so much, but it's the fact clubs make these things up. why don't we just write "we won the european cup twice even though we're playing doncaster and scunthorpe twice this season" in size 50 font across the front of our shirts?

it's pointless.

the shirt should be as unspoilt as possible. it is a symbol enough in itself.

I for one believe that the club should make the very most of our glorious past - two stars on the shirt, honour plaques on the walls, recognition of Peter Taylor and Brian Clough, noteworthy players paraded before games, anniversary events to celebrate such triumphs, 1865, Graribaldi, FA Cup win 1959... you name it lets celebrate it.

Anyone who thinks the stars are tacky is completely missing the point, I suppose they would want a see-through, clear shirt with no colour whatsovever playing in games in which the opposition is given a free shot at goal to make sure things always end up in a drawer!

This is a proud, big club. We have done what only a few have managed to do. Remember - Arsenal, Spurs, Chelsea, Man Utd, Man City, Newcastle, Rangers, PSG, Marseille, Everton, Villa, Birmingham, Wolves, Middlesboro, Sunderland, Sampdoria, CSKA.... the list just goes on and on and on. I DON'T CARE THAT IS WAS 30 YEARS AGO, THEY'VE HAD 30 YEARS TO CATCH UP, AND HAVEN'T!

How far back do you want the media to go every time there is a game? We are no longer that club, we can celebrate it and I have been doing so since the early 70's before any one starts but the modern world is about the here and now and sadly we are yet to make a big mark in this world. Thats not to say we will not....................

Remove the word Forest from the thread and insert the words Brian Clough and Peter Taylor.

We are a fairly ordinary provincial club who just happened, for really odd reasons, to be visited by two football geniuses.

Thank God every time you pray for the Chairman of Derby County that forced them to resign.

Thank God for Cloughie's stubborness that kept them with us.

Thank God that the people controlling the England set-up were utter fools.
