A load of Bull or have we struck "Mc Gold-Rick"? Update!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Spoken to Dave McGoldrick again today and the lad is excited at the prospect of joining Forest this summer. However his fate is not in his hands at the minute, Dave told me today that Southampton have received in writing an initial £500k bid from Forest, this is still on the table and Dave is waiting to hear what will be decided. I know other clubs are sniffing around including Reading, Palace and Sheff Wednesday but none have tabled an offer to date.

He gets back from porto banus today and should be speaking to his agent and club this week about what the future is for him, I get the feeling that Southampton receivers will be requesting clubs to put bids in which would mean an auction for his signature.

I know Forest would be a dream move for him, but as he even says that decision is still not in his hands. I'll try keep u posted this week if I hear anything more !!! Cheers lads and lasses !!!

Off a 606 and i heard it again this morning at the gym by someone who knows David Pleat from when he was at school with him at Mundella.

Mundella? Is that the one near Wilford before Wildford Meadows?

Or was, I went to the school that is there now! Or well was as the knocked it down and rebuilt it now. Big Wes came to see us and take that performed there in the 90s!

Anyway, it's plausible actually.

Why would we still eb chasing Calderwood targets, though?

Plus, McGoldrick hasn't isn't a patch on Blackstock.

Mundella was knocked down wasn't too far away from the changing room on Victoria Embankment.

I Personally i think Mc Goldrick isn't as good as Blackstock,But Mc Goldrick seems average at best in a very poor southampton side in which he has scored 13 goals.Still can't believe i was told last week Jason Euell is still on £25k a week at Southampton. :D

To be fair, Ian Breckin scored almost as many goals from defence for us when we were really shit.

True,I think we can do better than Mc Goldrick

I don't think McGoldrick would get in our current team ahead of Earnie, Blackstock, Garner, or Tyson.

He can sit on the bench instead of Newbold or Sinclair

he's not really bothered were he goes, just not league one, it depends on who bids what, anyway he's crap we need better than him

According to the southampton fans , McGoldrick actually plays better behind the strikers.

The transfer committee comprises mostly the same people as when Calderwood was here...

I thought Billy Davies lived by his own rules?

Surely having the same targets is an admission that really, the board rules.

Half a million for a young, seemingly promising player who has already scored goals in the Championship. Doesn't seem as bad a transfer move as some people are portraying it. I doubt we could get much more for a similar price. If we got Blackstock and McGoldrick to add to Earnshaw, Garner and Tyson, I'd be happy.

I think he is a decent player and we could easily make him better (a la Garner).

What about Will Hoskins?

I don't really understand why people are so against McGoldrick.

It hasn't been touted that we're chasing him instead of Blackstock, more along with and he scored 13 or 14 league goals in a very poor Southampton side this season - more than any player in our squad - at the age of 21.

That's another thing people forget. He's costing us (in my opinion) £500,000 which is less than half what Joe Garner cost and he's the same age, yet not one person complained when we signed Garner.

I think it'll be a very good signing for that money because he'll be coming in as a squad player, just like everyone else, who'll be fighting for a place in the squad.

As others have said, he can operate as a main striker, or as a link player between midfield and attack, which could be very useful for us so I think I'll be welcoming him with open arms should he sign.

Re: A load of Bull or have we struck "Mc Gold-Rick"?

I've seen McGoldrick a few times and not been that enthralled by him. Certainly capable of flashes of good stuff, but struck me as being someone who expected a lot done for him rather than work for it.
I had to wait until today to talk to the Saints fans in the office and their view was that whilst he may turn out to be a decent league 1 striker he's a lazy so and so and they'd snap our hands off for £500k.
Now watch him be a world beater! :D

Spoke to the lad again this afternoon, he's flying to NYC tonight with Kelvin and Leon Best for another holiday. He has told me that Southampton and Forest are negotiating a fee at the minute and things are close to being finalised, he reckons he should be a Forest player within 2 weeks, Forest havent sat and spoken to Dave as yet but have contacted his agent a few times to see where he wants to be in regards to personal terms.

The lad is excited and thinks that a fee could be agreed while he is away. He gets back Monday and is hoping that its sorted during next week... I'm not sure how this works as the window opens 1st July, but I think a pre-contract thing is signed before its made official in July !!!
