it seems to me at the minute that although there is a debate between wilson and chambers and who should start.as much as i hate to say it wes seems to be the weak link this season, he has been at fault for quite a few goals this season and dosent seem to be the big rock as usual. we are so weak from set pieces and crosses and look suspect any time a ball is whipped in. also now i think should be the time for didsy to stake a claim im a big fan of his and think he gives us something different very good at picking a pass and has looked good in the cameo roles so far. also giving mccleary a start for once may work, he always beats his man and gets a ball in the box something anderson never does and i think he is technically the best winger we have. hopefully things will pick up starting tonight. you redsssssss!

Wes is a fans favourite despite being utter crap. He is clumsy and gives away too many dangerous freekicks which is suicide considering our defensive record from set pieces this season. His high foot against Barnsley was shocking

Normally he tries to take on the player he just went past again. Seems to want to beat every player twice.
i just think in comparison to ando who really has no attributes of a winger whatsoever aprt from pace he is a better option, he is someone who i would guess has never made 3 starts in a row and a run of games is what he needs and he could be our answer on the wing...it certainly is not cohen, anderson, tyson, or mcgugan, lewis is wasted we want him in and around the middle. i see forest every week and mccleary has always impressed me beating his man with ease, and he is alot more likely to get a cross in over ando. just my opinion.

The main issue we have with our three "wingers" (Tyson, Anderson and McCleary) is that whilst all three are blessed with natural pace, none are particularly good at crossing the football.
Hence often, opponents have sussed us out; in that they are fairly confident that Forest aren't going to bombard them with crosses from out wide, so they can force the 'winger' inside, where they have defensive cover.
I still think Chris Gunter is probably the best crosser of a football we have at the club!

yeah gunts is good but im not joking i honestly think joel lynch whips in a brilliant cross.
Tys is in no way a winger or anything approaching it. He's a striker if anything, who doesn't get goals, so for me, as I've said before, he's basically a waste of space and should have been moved on long before now, as his ONLY asset is pace. Ando and McCleary have more to their games than that, but like you say neither of them have got real quality when it comes to delivering the ball from wide. In fact we haven't really had anyone whose been able to do that since Commons - Cohen's left foot isn't bad but then he doesn't have the other qualities that wingers need, and he's only out there really because there's nowhere else for him to be. That's why signing someone like Whittingham would have been so important, but is clearly out of reach at the moment. Jermaine Johnson would also not solve this problem, as he'd essentially just be another PA or GM

He certainly did have a great spell of deliveries at the end of the season before last, I remember the amazement in the stands around me ...

For some reason, that didn't last and he went off the boil again the season after. As I remember anyway, which is usually badly.

we should try a bit of the old 5-3-2 or 5-1-2-2 with wing backs. Gives gunts and bertrand the freedom to get up and down the wings, allows us to play wilson, wes and chambers and also allows us to plat our 3 best midfielders all at the same time without having to force them to play out of position

Fair enough 5-3-2 etc can accommodate players but I think that formation has become quite out dated. think Ive heard it described as not flexible enough for the modern game? It's very difficult to perfect in that it often leaves gapping holes esp on the wing.

I'm not sure that matters too much as none of our strikers are particularly prolific headers of the ball! I think in general all of our "wingers" are just not good enough all round to take our club to the next level.

Ando looks better when he receives the ball further up the field rather than on the half way line. Last season (IMHO), he was good when getting the ball tight around the opponent's area with confident one-twos between him and other confident players. This confidence seems largely to have left our team. They have lost the guts to play a tight-passing game. Having said all this, I thought Forest looked better on Saturday when Ando and Goldie came on. Both would play in my team. Also, I'd give a run to McCleary. People who slag Tys off should realise that he often keeps two opponents busy - sadly we seem too daft to exploit this. I don't think there's much wrong with our squad. We've stopped playing - that's all. Not Marthur or Doughty's fault. So Whose?
