a dose of reality?

Didnt go today, but perhaps (from the result at least albeit only a friendly) it might be the dose of reality needed. After all the hedonism of all the new signings, it has been getting a little too easy to get too carried away. Perhaps the draws the other night and todays result may bring some people, fans and people within the club alike, back down to earth a bit. I think we have brought some good players in, but with 9 new additions (yes ok some here last season) it is inevitably going to take them all some time to bed in and gel together - it's nonsenical to think it wouldnt. We all need to be patient and give everything time to work out, and get behind everybody through it all. My only concern is that BD may have started to build the team from front to back as opposed to the other way round. I still think we need a big, nasty dominating centre half to provide that leadership needed. I am also hoping that certain players (like Joe Garner, Moussi and Smith to some extent) who did play their part last season, especially Garner with his goals, dont just get forgotten about by BD in all the wave of rebuilding. They deserve their chance to stake their claim as much as any of the new boys, and have already proved what they can do for Forest last season. Competition is healthy but it doesnt mean that the players already here havent got anything good to offer in the future.

Good post my man. Agree with the idea, but not so much it being brought about by the previous two results. We are in the middle of pre-season training and as Billy Davies himself said all these players are playing with heavy legs they are under very hard training programmes which most of them have come out and stated that they are the hardest they have ever done.

But I think we do need to relax a little on the expectations front ( Going to get shot down for not having any ambition ) But say we are in and around table obscurity it will bring about abit of DOUT in some fans eyes as everyone is so keen on promotion, we are/should be slowly building a side capable of challenging any sort of title challenge in this league. We have just come out of League One we aren't as big a club a we used to be and no amount of impatience and excitment within the club is going to change that immediately.

Slowly but surely.

To be honest I really don't think it was a does of reality.

Having gone and watched Forest yesterday, it was a typical pre season friendly with 2 weeks to go till the start of the season, not wanting to pick up a knock or cards.

Honestly at 1 stage can anyone say Forest really stepped up the gears? I think if you ignore the result and look at how Forest played, their passing was fantastic, I dont think I have seen Forest play the ball like that since Paul Hart's days, 1 touch football and clever running off the ball from not just 1 players but 2 or 3 constantly.

County where up for this, it was their big day, Sven was there, league 2 minnows 2 weeks ago, now got ex-England, Mexico, Lazio (the list goes on) manager as a director of football, Tord Grip, 1 of the worlds best scouts as chief scout, and alleged bundles of cash to play with. Playing their hated rivals Forest, their players had to prove a point today to keep a place in the side or they where going to be gone at some stagfe this season and they set out to do it.

Yes a defeat is annoying no matter pre-season, league or cup, but I am not worried 1 bit.

I remember Leeds having a shocking pre-season in the build up to league 1 the year we were promoted and we all know how well they did with wise/poyet. Newcastle getting hammered last night, these pre-season games shouldnt be looked into in any depth.

I disagree.

If you get a good pre season, your players will take that in good stead for the start of the season.

But really they are a laugh for the players, gets them to gel.

So really i dont give a shit if we lost to County.

remember last season pre-season? we played fantastic against everton and sunderland and everyone thought we where dead set on promotion,
II think billys choice of freindlys are very interesting with stoke being a new premiership club and brum being newly promoted how we preform and compete against these will give us a good inidication of things to come.

the dose of reality we need is for forest fans to stop bloody panicking of pre-season

Exactly what I've always thought. A good pre-season wont garantuee you a good start when it come to competitive games, but it helps.

My only concern is to do with so many of the signings coming late on. If we'd have got a more signings in early on (with McGoldrick, Adebola and Camp) I think the teamwould have been more settled going into the Rotherham/ Rushden games

I have to say, this thread has given some consistantly good reading thus far.. the first three posts in particular.

My opinion, is that we are shaping up great.. and despite the loss yesterday (which agreed was mainly a training exercise) there are plenty of reasons to be positive and no need to dwell.

Totally agree mate. Went to Rushen and first half, our passing and movement was good. Majewski leading the way with his neat control, awareness and short, simple passes (McGugan trying his elaborate and unnecessary long balls). Second half we just weren't arsed and let them have it.

There's no point getting an injury now, in a totally meaningless game.

A dose of reality?

We were playing a team who were obviously up for it. The arrival of the turnip Swede has obviously buoyed the players and fans and we were the victims of the 'new manager effect'.

It was a friendly against a team against whom we have nothing to prove - they are at least two seasons away from playing us in the league (discounting the possibility of our relegation).

We have two of the best goalkeepers in the Championship.
We have one of the best (possibly the best) full back in the Championship in Gunter and one of the most consistent central defenders in Morgan
We have an exceptional array of strikers that must be the envy of every other club in the Championship
We now have a midfield that is capable of competing with anything in the Championship with McKenna set to lead by example, as captain.

Yes, there are weaknesses, particularly in the centre of the back four but I do not see the necessity for doom and gloom. I am confident that the struggles of last season are well behind us and that we can look forward to competing in the upper half of the division next season

You still here? Looking forward to spending the £4million you got for Fox?

Arrrrggggghhhh!

It was a friendly ffs, the reaction to this result from people on both sides of the trent has been nothing short of ridiculous and now we have daft Cov fans joining in.

The fact that you felt the need to swear in your post probably means that you do give a s**t that you lost to county and as the original poster said " you got a dose of reality" and thats what you dont like.

Hiya!!

Welcome back from your all inclusive holiday to the skip outside poundland.

Really pleased with King Billys comments regarding the fact that the signings have only made us a decent team and not promotion contenders.

If you take the new signings out of the squad, I didnt realise how bad we were last season, and maybe CC did a decent job just to keep us within a chance of staying up!

It was so weak....

But i'll be happy to settle with a top half finish this season and then push on after that, in the hope that Notts C will still be in League 2.

Achieving promotion too rapidly can be damaging. I'd hate to take Derby's greatest achievement in 30 odd years off their hands.......

No such thing as too rapidly. Too rapidly and stupidly is the embarrassing combination.
