3 more wins

My eye has just been drawn to last seasons League table.
3 more wins would have seen us comfortably in the top half of the table in 10th place.
Surely with King Billy at the helm we should expect that as an absolute minimum.
I'm suddenly feeling even more optimistic about next season. Obviously it depends on signings but I confidently expect a top half finish.
Is this blind optimism or totally realistic?

Sounds easy when you put it like that. 3 wins takes 3 points out of three other teams totals as well.

From the final six games when we had the loanees in we got 12 points. That is title winning form. It's a lot harder to do it for the whole season of course but if we could get those players back, or players of greater or equal quality we should hopefully be in the top half.

Realistic - if not pessimistic

Playoffs if we get Dex, McGoldrick, Anderson, Gunter, Mills, McKenna
Relegation if we sell Earnie and sign Adebola

Why do you have the same avatar as DanR? - that man is very sexy - you should watch out pretending to be him

I like the optimism and do think that should be the goal for this year but for our team an extra 9 points is a lot. Teams in our situation generally pick up towards the end of the season too with the threat of relegation becoming ever more real. I'd stick my neck out and say the majority of the teams in the bottom 7-8 would have gained more points in games 37-46 than 27-36.

If you think back to the early part of the season where we lost a lot of games by the odd goal, mostly 1-0, we could have achieved a bunch of points right then, pretty easily. We were quite unfortunate at times, not to get wins against the likes of Charlton and losing games like Burnley at home.

Thing is, that's three games we had to have lost, rather than three where we could have won, but drew instead.

We would need 5 'wins that were draws' to be up there.

However, it's not too difficult to think of three games that we lost where we should have won.

Norwich at home immediately springs to mind.

Cardiff at home, plus the extra points we'll take off Derby this season. Six points off Leicester and wa-hey, mid-table

Donny in December also, but we'd have probably lost many more games had we not sacked CC.

Imagine where we'd have finished if Paul Smith hadn't been in nets for most of the season. We'll win the league if we sign Campo.

That does not mean I am a fan of Gorgonzola.

I expected at least a top 10 finish last season and look what happened. I am not expecting anything big for next season because it will be an anti climax if we flop.

Ask yourself why?
We just about stuttered over the finish line in the league below and retained a totally inexperienced squad going into the most competitive league in the world. I expected us to finish around 18th, but anything above 22nd would have been fine with me.

Well done for not expecting much for the upcomming season and I agree it'll be a pretty boring mid-table all season job. However, after the nail biting finishes in the past 4 years, I think my heart would appreciate that!

I would say if we get the players we are in for, I see no reason why we wouldn't be pushing for play offs this season. Not that I am expecting it though I do think the squad would be capable of it with the manager behind them.

I think looking at Bristol City was the main reason watching what the way they went up (going up on the final day) and the fact that with a small amount of improvements to what wasn't considered a decent squad for the league they clinched a play off final spot looking maintaining a top 6 spot for the vast majority of the season. I thought we went into the championship with a better squad than they took into the league and I thought the additions we made were better my imagination took off after the "logic" was in place. I remember on here people were sort of suggesting a play off place which I thought we could clinch myself providing we had made more signings than we did. CC didn't really help matters by saying something along the lines of "we are aiming for promotion because most other sides in the league are" that really got my hopes up more than anything..

I love the baiting.

Imagine where we'd be if Maggie was still around.

No student debt, a country full of people with a desire to make themselves better, Jeremy Kyle wouldn't exist...
