Just before we all get into shedding crocodile tears

May 1982 Taylor retired from Forest and football for good

November 1982, appointed Manager of Derby County.

Yes he was a fine and succesful servant to Forest, well paid for his talents and being part of an outstanding ( read magical pairing ), he retired from Forest with a serious golden handshake, to surface six short months later up the road.

Sad he died at an early age, when he should have been enjoying his retirement and family, but lets not get all scouserish over this date.
 
Very sad that he and Cloughie didn't get over their differences prior to him passing ... BC never got over it methinks.

I wonder if we'll feel the same about Ned Kelly in 40 years? ... When Forest are a stable top flight club thanks to his work with Billy Davies ...
 
Can't believe that is twenty years ago. Remember going to the first game after he died against Everton at the City Ground. How time flies.
 
It was also twenty years ago today that Sergeant Pepper taught the band to play.

Rest in peace, Peter. A son of Nottingham and integral part of Forest's success.

Everyone makes mistakes, Sedge. I doubt he got much ultimate pleasure from it, he got sacked.
 
I'm just interested to know.

Nobody forced Robbo to go to Derby yet most people hate Taylor for it rather than Robertson.

Robbo is my favourite Forest player of all time, I was pissed off when he left but I didn't hate him or Taylor. He was more or less past his sell by date when he left anyway.

Cloughie had a strange way of assuming out of contract players would sign and then pissed off on holiday only to find out they'd left before he got back (remember Darren Wassall - our natural replacement for Super Des?).
 
Don't hate Taylor or Robbo, far from it. Hate morbid mourning and crocodile tears. If this was Liverpool we would all be peeing ourselves laughing at their attitude.
 
Don't think it's a case of mourning or crying, just taking a moment to remember someone. That's not such a bad thing, and doesn't have to be sombre at all - could be celebratory, reflect those great memories of European triumphs that I think I can reasonably confidently state wouldn't have happened without him.

I just had to make do with remembering videos I've seen, but still.
 
We'd have a thread for Cloughie on the anniversary of his passing, I see no reason why Peter Taylor can't have the same. Brian wasn't half the manager without him.

When he was paraded before the game, woman next to me said "first time he's been welcomed back here". Footballers move on, i mean it's not like he ever said he was a forest fan and loved playing for us ala Scummons.............

You were just before my time as a forest fan, but yours and brians achievements still stand tall and will always be remembered by every generation of forest fans.


Did anyone see east midlands news yesterday on the BBC? His daughter again, instead of remembering her father- took yet another opportunity to have a pop at forest.

It slightly cheapens what should be a time to remember his achievements and honour his memory - when she uses it to take cheap shots.

That does grate. Every time I've seen her, it's to take a pop at Forest. Like you say, it isn't the time for cheap shots, rather remembering a great man.

Robertson was a far better player and much more of a crowd favourite than fatty commons. The comparison I was making was to Taylor, Commons is irrelevant. Taylor was portrayed as the villian of the piece for poaching Robbo but no-one seemed to hold any malice for Robertson for leaving.

For the record I didn't and still don't hold any malice for either Taylor or Robertson.

Exactly.

We can all appreciate shes annoyed - but she should maybe show the same courtesy shes asking of forest, by putting bitterness aside and just remembering the great man.

The impression i got was that there was, if not as much, at least some malice aimed towards Robbo.
This is all way before my time though and i'm only going on what people have said. I suppose you could say that Taylor left to retire only to turn up at our "rivals" but plenty have swapped Forest for Derby and vice versa, even if not straight away. Perhaps people just listened to Clough, who felt stabbed in the back by Taylor, and no one could touch our god* without the wrath of the fans.

*I know this'll get me into trouble but as good as Mr Clough was, he was still just a man, a brilliant man, yes but flawed just like the rest of us.
 
Bear in mind that in Robbo's day players had a lot less say than they do now... he was probably just told by the powers-that-be what was happening to him.

I've yet to meet a Forest fan of that generation who doesn't hold Robbo in the highest possible regard, usually with ill-concealed homosexual leanings lol Taylor does seem to divide them though.
 
In my opinion, Taylor shouldn't be commemorated at Forest because of his treachery.

At the end of the day, Robbo might have Turked us too, but he came back and - more importantly - he did almost singlehandedly win us two European Cup finals.

As for the "Peter Taylor's daughter" thing; the Clough clan has been guilty of similar sniping and it sticks in the craw...all in all, it just makes me all the more grateful for Stuart Pearce who has no split loyalties whatsoever! Also, anyone remember that car crach he had just outside Cotgrave? God definitely spared his life in order that he might one day lead his people into Jerusalem. he will either win the World Cup as England manager, or the Eurpean Cup as Forest gaffa in his life time.

It's written in the good book.
