So we won the European Cup in 1979 and 1980 which I presume saw us qualify for the competition the following year. What happened in the 1980/1981 European Cup season?

Not certain, but I think we were knocked out in the first round by CKSA Sofia.

Cheers, no wonder it's hardly ever mentioned, quite a timid exit after winning the cup twice!

I remember reading about those games in a blooming Forest from last season.

I wrote that piece and I reckon we got complacent and thought we (Annesley Reds)would go abroad for the next game to play a 'big' club.
We were shell shocked at our exit that year.

We lost to Dynamo Berlin in the quarter final and Ajax in the semi final in the previous season so it was a run of one game, i.e. the final vs Hamburg in 1980. Not very long.
