Hi Guys,

Hope you dont mind me posting this here but it was suggested by a friend that there may be someone on here who can help. Ive been given a really old Adidas Forest shirt from 1979 & i was hoping that a kind soul could give me some idea of the value as I havent got a clue. Its not in great condition as you would expect but its not too bad really to say its 30 years old.

Any help would be much appreciated.

Thanks
Karley

Hi,

Are you sure it is really original? If so, I imagine there would be a lot of interest and wouldn't care to speculate on the value.

It's (understandably) rather sought after. I know there are a lot of copies of that particular shirt.

Thanks for the quick reply- yes i think so! its got a very cloth eared looking adidas label in it anyway. Its certainly not one of the newer ones you get from the retro shirt makers.

The size is approx large boys by the way, the letterings faded & its a bit dusty. The main reason ive asked is because i put it on eBay & within a few hours there were a few watchers an offer and a question which made me believe i might have underpriced it so ive bumped the price up & thought i would try & find out some more info 1st!

Good stuff :) Good luck with it!

The lack of them on eBay will tell its own story. I would suggest that you ensure it's very clear it is an original replica from that era rather than a re-made one.

As for a price, I really couldn't say.

There is a function on eBay that lets you view the prices at which similar items have been sold. If you do a search, and tick "Completed Items" on the left hand side, it will show you auctions that have finished.

Run a couple of searches and you might be able to find items that have been sold on eBay previously.

But as Winnits says, make sure your item Listing and details make it clear that it's an authentic and not a reproduction!

you could always start at 99p and let the auction run. You can always end it early if it looks like its not doing well

That was my original plan but i was scared in case I didn't get very much for it. Will I not get in trouble from eBay if i do this?

I would expect to get comparable to that other one. Obviously you can't see the condition of the other one etc.

originals normally go for at least £100, the problem is they are always kids sizes or small men. Where were all the lardies in the late 70s?

Well, all I can say is where they weren´t.

They weren´t sitting behind computers at work 8 hours a day and another 8 hours after that surfing the net and playing Football Manager.
Neither were they sitting on sofa watching football on telly 7 nights in a week eating burgers, curry, pizza or other junk and drinking gallons of cola or canned lager.

Ive got 2 of them that I bought on Ebay - admittedly around 3 years ago now so the prices may have risen.

One is framed on my wall signed to my son from Brian Clough.

The other is signed by Cloughie and the entire side - minus Robbo and Martin O'Neill. Still a work in progress!

I also bought one as a present which I got signed by Cloughie to the recipient.

I paid in the region of £40 each - clearly the rarity has driven prices upwards since.

I think the asking price is a bit steep, but good luck with it.

I would be aiming for £100+ on the "best offers" bit.

How did you buy a shirt three years ago and get Cloughie to sign it?

He did say 'around 3 years ago' :p

Maybe he just got one that was pre-signed and added his sons name?

If I recall correctly the adidas replica kits of that time had a sort of "fluffy" felt like look to the badges.  The first ones in 1977 were like an iron on transfer that peeled off after a few washes (that really p**sed me off) but the laters ones had this fluffy look and did not fall off in the wash.  I guess a fake one would have a sewn/embroidered badge or a thermal print.

Also the badges look in the right place and proportion, some fakes have really massive adidas badges for some reason or have them in the wrong place.

I just wish I'd kept all mine and the unwin kit from 1976/77 :-(

I've been trying to find one of these shirts, I know they got replica ones in the club shop but I was after one's with the original Adidas logo. Does anyone know where I can find one?
