£5 million and counting

So if we get Blackstock we'll be approaching a £5 million spending spree.

Mills would push nearer to £7m.

This is an amazing amount of money to spend, we must be in the top ten in the country for spending!

Just one question, can we afford it?

I don't think we have a bidget. I think if the manager puts a good case forward about a player then ND considers it and takes feedback on board from everyone involved as to wether they would be an improvement to the squad. BD seems to either do his homework better or makes a better case for the players !

ND is a businessman and took over when Forest were in a mess. After restructuring financial aspects he wouldnt dream of putting all that at risk again and to suggest he would is frankly laughable.

Bit of both. He underwrites the spending, but for tax purposes it adds to our 'debt' - which is, in fact, owed to him. Makes perfect sense, because it covers his back.

I think a lot of it is to do with the fact that we haven't been able to spend money for the last 5 years or so as players have seen us as something of a poisoned chalice. My guess is that we have a backlog of cash at our disposal that we are finally able to use now.

I think it was Rich that placed a good answe in a previous thread which caught my eye. May have been Rich not sure.

But it was about in the time of this recession ND believes that spending money on assets such as these players will do him better down the line than instead of investing in anyother form of business. Thats to put it quite poorly and bluntly I'm sure whoever worte it will come on and explain it again maybe.

Someone suggested a great idea somewhere else (sorry, can't remember who you are) that due to the current financial climate he will be looking to invest his money into something that may safeguard his money in the long term. Whereas most owners will be feeling the pinch, after selling his businesses at the right time he will be looking to take advantage by pushing Forest on up the divisions.

If Forest were run purely on the clubs income, there would be no way we could afford these signings.

Then again he could of just borrowed it from Ocean Finance

I've been away for a few days.
Any news on either Blackstock or Teddy Sheringham?

Some good replies guys, it's like an episode of dragons den!

As long as we're ok, don't want this bubble to burst.

We're only alright when we know we're alright. Ask with four games left.

Contrary to what people may think. Doughty isn't daft ! He won't let the club make the same mistakes again !

If you made a financial mistake that lost you a lot of money and nearly a lot more, would you live beyond your means again ?

Could it be that he has opened his wallet as he feels he has a manager he trusts to do the job and get us up the league??

I think he has BD's trust allready, hence the greater signings. I also hear he is meticulous when planning for a player. No doubt this tactic helps him where CC failed !

It certainly raises a few eyebrows!

I've been arguing for years that million pound signings in League One is outstanding investment, but with these sorts of figures I don't even need to bother anymore.

Personally I would have thought the only thing putting us in any trouble would be to be relegated, but hopefully there's little chance of that so it's not much of a risk. As well as the transfer fees the wage bill must have crept up significantly, not least because of the size of the squad.

I would imagine Doughty has decided he can afford to pay these losses so long as we're in the Championship, and obviously if we got up to the Prem it would all pay for itself.

Ah the old open wallet system, we all came across this in Portugal.

Wasn't me, that's a ludicrous assertion!

However, in these times of recession, cash is king. Whilst other clubs buy on credit we can buy in cash as we've been frugal for years. We're also an attractive option for players as they are more likely to get paid by a solvent club than one that has just blown £10m of credit on buying you.

Don't remind me!

It was wallet closed syndrome this evening when I sniffed Oscar getting a round in!
