£26m+ to win the championship?

That's the shortfall that Mike Ashley has had to cover this season to keep the Toon going with their player's wages etc. (This was in their matchday programme yesterday)

We can safely expect that this season has cost the toon £44m (26m from MA + 13m Parachute + 15m Matchday)

Its no surprise they're clear by 8pts.

It's only a couple of seasons ago that they reportedly owed about £100 million. They have a method of business that would make you lose sleep at night. I guess that even promotion will not help their financial black hole and they will hit the headlines for all the wrong reasons over the next couple of seasons.

Newcastle have so many players who are on massive wages for most Premiership clubs; Coloccini, Barton, Smith, Nolan, Gutierrez and Enrique must all be earning in excess of £40,000 per week.

Considering what massive investments they have made in their squad, it is not really much of an achievement to be top of the Championship.

Does anyone else get the impression that their is a conspiracy to get Toon back in the Prem? Maybe instigated by the debtors/banks and facilitated through some of their more high profile fans.
There is clearly a lot of "owed money" at stake and if Newcastle went the way of Pompey there would be some rather peeved debtors.

A lot of their players are on upwards of 50k-a-week.

Coloccini and Jonas Gutierrez, for example, were signed as full Argentinian internationals when Newcastle thought they were going to push for European qualification and are both on somewhere in the region of £70,000-a-week.

Mike Ashley spoke out in advance of the January transfer window, saying "we need to be more careful with money these days and won't be paying any new players more than maybe 30 or 40 thousand pounds."

The guy is insane. That's more than some Championship sides pay their entire first team.

Ashley should have stuck to retail as the guy doesn't have the first idea in how to run a football club effectively.

Anyone who appoints Joe Kinnear as a manager clearly is insane!

Mike Ashley had to pay off £80 million of the clubs overdraught ( not the whole amount  ) just so they would be able to compete in their relegation year lol

Didnt Doughty employ Big Fat Joe?

It was a big gamble to keep the majority of the playing sqaud on that sort of money. If they dont go up it will be a disaster for them, unfortuntely looks like they are going up! Just hope we can be the ones who take the unbeaten home record away from them!

He's insane for getting involved with such a twatty club in the first place.
