The thing that stood out for me last season with Garner is he was our best player coping with an aggressive press. He never got intimidated and passed the ball through the lines tidily and accurately. It meant we were able to deal with Championship pressed and we missed that yesterday
While I agree, I think yesterday's press was far quicker and more aggressive than anything he would have encountered previously. Relentless!

I do think he would adapt to the step up in time though, like a lot of our champ standouts. Wouldn't at all be against bringing him in; he's a quality young player, one who I'd hope we have a chance of getting if a deal could be structured on the right way fir united... I'd expect we'd lose a large chunk of any sell on value for one thing.

I'll probably get pelters for this but whilst we could've done with Garner yesterday personally I think we missed Yates more

Definitely don't disagree but I think what we missed most was the combination of both, an understanding between 2 young hard working CMs who compliment each other well despite offering different strengths

If we're going into games with a 2v3 man disadvantage in midfield the absolute minimum required is 2 CMs who have a strong connection on the pitch, able to remain focused and are willing to graft their twat off

I'd love Jimmy to come back but the question is whether he is going to want to be at a team that has hardly any possession, lost a load of players in the summer and already look like relegation candidates.....................................or whether he decides to leave them and join Forest instead.

Yes completely agree, and the problem is that whilst Garner is a quality young player (and fits our "business" model) hes by no means the experienced big, hard bastard we need now and even if we sign him theres got to be one of those too....

Agree, and it's the same story to a slightly lesser extent with MGW. Will be an interesting few weeks...

If he doesnt get a run out second half he a no future at Utd. They're shite

It doesn’t look like he’s coming on with United chasing the game. Hope that means there’s still a chance for us to bring him in this window.

There isn’t a pathway or the appetite in the Man Utd central midfield. They will sign more midfielders in the coming weeks as well.

He needs to leave them permanently, not on loan. But it would prove an unpopular move with the United fans & they make decisions based on popularity.

Yep, already linked with Alex Scott at Bristol this morning and now Ornstein saying they're going for Rabiot too.

This from this morning too:

They have Garner sat right there on the bench who would do exactly what Scholes is talking about.

Garner is never going to play for Man United. They'd rather panic buy someone else than give him any game time.

Whether he comes to Forest or not, he needs to get out of that club for the sake of his career.

Garner was improving every week for me at the back end of last season, I would be disappointed if he left United and went to another Premier League club.

Class player who along with Zincs made us tick with how much work off the ball he did.

Tagged onto the end of this story about Ramos and Dieng - suggests Garner remains a target

Would be great if we could get him on a loan with obligation to buy. Gonna need to go defensive in a few games and a central midfeild of garner, Yates and mangala does seem pretty good

took long enough, one game in and garner probably wants to escape and actually play.

Cannot fault him, to be honest.
