From what I picked up from the match I don't think there is too much between ourselves and teams like wolves. The main difference between us is a player of the quality of Cunha, in the final third, yes wood a great goal scorer but cunha creates and causes a hell of a lot more problems for the opposition
He cost €50m, didn't he? That's what we're up against.

I think the 3 propping it up this year are, as a collective, worse than any other year I can think of. Sheff U are one of the few clubs (other than ourselves back in the 90's) who became a selling club, and arguably ended up with a worse squad, by getting promoted.

Very true and I don't dispute that, but the bottom third are all on par with previous seasons - less 20/21 when the bottom 3 where miles off the pace.

We could've happily bought a player like him for 50m if we didn't buy Sangare and Turner. Let's not pretend Forest have been short of cash!
I don't think we could. Players costing €50m aren't interested in Forest, or certainly weren't last summer. They see us as too big a risk, or not a big enough step up.

Having the money does not always equate to being able to spend it where you like. Shopping for football players isn't the same as house buying or shopping for a new car.

Interestingly I remember Cunha getting pelters from Wolves fans for ages for being an overpriced flop. Perhaps a lesson there for Sangare.
He did, he has come into his own under o Neil. Sangare could probably do with a pre season, hopefully comes into his own next season or could be a case of the slower paced games suited him better.

Wolves were around the same place as us, when he signed for them. Money talks and right now prem wages trumps pretty much most other leagues.

That's why our wage bill last year is as high as it is - it's an attempt to get higher quality players in. Mixed bag in terms of how it's turned out admittedly, but assume that's why.

I've spoken about this in the Sangare thread, but for me it's two totally different levels of expectation.

Cunha signed for Wolves when he was 23, and was still learning his trade. What's being judged is going to develop and improve.

Sangare signed for us when he was 25 and was approaching his peak. What's being judged isn't far off the finished product, and will improve very minimally.

2 years is a long time in football (look where we were 2 years ago) and a 23 year old should be treated as potential approaching their peak, showing signs of quality but not necessarily a stalwart, whereas a 25 year old should be viewed as much more of as a stalwart at the start of their peak and ready to perform week in, week out.

Not saying we shouldn't remain patient with Sangare, we have little choice really and he may just need to get up to speed with the game (although personally I think he's had long enough to do that), but there's a significant difference between Cunha & Sangare.

We were trying to get higher quality players on the cheap. Except for sangare and MGW, all the rest are punts on brazillians, which may or may not come good. If we stay up this season, it should be interesting next season as we have a core group of players that are now established and should be able to push on

As I've said before I'd hate to not get the chance to see the core of this side develop together. There's a lot to look forward to but a very big 'if' in the way...

On the flip side Sangare signed from the Eredivisie and Cunha signed from Atletico Madrid having also played in Germany. You'd expect the player from the inferior, slower league to take longer to adapt.

I've seen enough from Sangare to know there's a player there but he needs patience and time, unfortunately in our current situation these are two things we can't really afford at the moment.

A disappointing result and game, a draw snatched from the jaws of victory.
There were some positives. We looked to attack throughout. The Portuguese kid looked very good when he came on. The crowd was very good.
Negatives? Divock is so lacking in confidence, he could have won it for us yesterday. Their equaliser came from a corner, we are not very good at defending set pieces in the air. CHO was frustrating.
Thoughts going forward. We are a much better side than Luton. We have the nucleus of a very good side with Murillo, Danilo, MGW, Neco, Elanga and Sels. I worry about the aerial threat from Everton. If we end up getting relegated there are many things about the EPL that I will not miss (shocking refs, VAR, endless cheating by players, the animated chess game version of association football). If we do go down I will blame the owners. I will blame them for sanctioning expenditure above and beyond what is allowable, not for the fact that the recruitment has been either daft or outstanding, but that the financial controls were not in place and we were lied to about it.

Yep. People slating the failure of our transfers in should look no further than Murillo and Wood and MGW, you have to balance the failures with longer terms prospects. Forest’s transfer activity could, on balance be better than most of our competition in the bottom half of the prem.

What we have now is a very capable prem team, playing decent football
Get the set piece issues sorted both end and they’d be challenging for a European spot… no, not taking the piss lol

Sangare is exactly the type of player that would be a monster in the championship, learning the pace there to get up to speed.

I don’t want that of course, but again there’s positives everywhere for the club.

Agreed, which is why I was more than happy to give him half a year here should see him get up to speed.

Maybe he just needs longer, but for me I think he should be settled now though tbh. I'm not sure why a pro player can't get his fitness levels and sharpness up to standard in 6 months?

There’s probably some face saving going on here. He could be hiding an injury that hadn’t been picked up previously. Bizarre but it happens.

Surely Cunha signed last season? And Wolves have been in the Premier League for a good few seasons now and have brought through a good number of Portuguese speaking players. We are far more of a risk than Wolves was when he moved there.

Fair enough - but there still isn't a world of difference betwen spending 35 and 50m. It's not like they had Mbappe yesterday and we were working with the budget of Accrington Stanley.

Can I just say credit to Gary O'Neil for something I saw. About 15 mins from the end, one of their players had gone down and stayed down for a period of time (again) trying to disrupt us from getting on with the game. O'Neil came out the the edge of his technical and told him to "get the f*** up" several times. A little detail but it impressed me.

Sangare will come good just like Tavares and Woody.
Unfortunately its not going to be this season
Fingers crossed.
