Has Cooper signed his contract yet? or is he waiting to see if he gets given a complete team?
No idea, am more interested in when Yates is back.Has Cooper signed his contract yet? or is he waiting to see if he gets given a complete team?
Yep lots of people will tag us as big spending but the reality is we've only paid more than £10m for three players, only one of which started yesterday. Most teams in this league won't have anyone in their team below £10m.100%.
We need to also put in perspective squad values too, we were a million miles back, working to catch up in 8 weeks.
Chelsea spending £20m on a youth player. One signing for one of the “top-six” clubs can be more than our summer business.
Agree with us needing a 3 man midfield away from home. I know we started with Colback (who'll probably end up being 5th/6th choice midfielder when our transfer business is completed) but we got completely overwhelmed in midfield yesterday. We need a gret big f***er in midfield. We also should switch to 3 in the middle away from home judging from yesterday.
The midfield were so easily overran it was embarrassing, we missed Yates big time as he would of at least got stuck in and gave us a second to breath.Agree with us needing a 3 man midfield away from home. I think I’m just old school and think if we have a 6’4 monster in midfield everything would be sunshine and rainbows. This is also what Wilder/ Sheffield United did when they came up, in the Championship they mostly played 3-4-1-2 like us and quickly moved to 3-5-2 when they came up. They also didn't really do it with a monster midfielder just hard workers Fleck and Lundstram (and occasionally Freeman lol) with Norwood playing the playmaker role although they did add Berge in the Jan window for some monster points.
I was thinking that the £20m release clause doesn't seem so unreasonable.Sander Berge anyone?

Honestly we should look to Sheffield United’s first season as inspiration, finished top ten with a team which on paper would probably be a bottom half Championship side but outworked teams and fought for every point.
Yeah do we think we could eventually see an 11 where Johnson is the only recognised striker? Like a mid 3 of Mangala, Yates and MGW? All very different, but willing runners. Would mean Brennan and JL making runs.We have to go to a 3 in the middle, I can't see a world where we don't.
Whenever Newcastle had it out wide, the midfielders were over covering and the defenders were doing what they did excellent last season in keeping narrow & dealing with balls in the box. But there was acres of space infront of the defence, with over 2 of the Newcastle midfielders free every time because our midfielders were elsewhere & it meant there was no way out. That will have to change. If we play like that against the likes of Man City, De Bruyne will score about 5 himself.
I thought the same when I heard he'd bagged one yesterday.Sander Berge anyone?
I don't think yesterday was pretty good evidence of anything really, we can't take too much from it or we will also have to start assuming that Liverpool won't be competing for the title and Bournemouth will.Do people not think that yesterday was pretty good evidence that we need to get AWAY from having a Championship team, rather than leaning 100% into it?
It's the Lingard conundrum I was talking about yesterday. With two players not helping in defence, you risk being overrun in midfield. Three midfielders might indeed be the solution, but then what are you going to do with all these high-profile forward players? A defensive 3-5-2 would leave both Lingard and, say, Gibbs-White, out of the starting 11, not to mention the difficulties in creating and scoring. We have to go to a 3 in the middle, I can't see a world where we don't.

Agree, certainly until we find our feet. Based on yesterday we need to be careful not to get on the end of some hidings against the good teams-that won't do confidence any good and even if people think its negative we can't afford it IMO if we are going to make a good go of staying upWe need a gret big f***er in midfield.
