Does anyone remember League 1 Derby County? (STILL the worst team in history!)

Surely someone is keeping a close watch on them this time. Unless they are suffering from Boris syndrome it's f*** you we'll do as we like.
EFL should be. Other 71 clubs too.
It really wouldn't surprise me if they try it on again.
Unsure Clowes is the new Mel Morris and the EFL should be monitoring them appropriately- ie like a hawk- for the next 2 years.

Besides which they have quite a powerful card to play- if the proposed new signing or renewed contract does not fit the Business Plan, they simply refuse to register the player. Of course if Derby can then re-negotiate the contract to the permitted amount and the EFL are happy with this then they can register the player. No registration=no ability to play though.

The SCMP rules show that they can spend 60% of turnover on player wages.

Turnover is the usual measures but can also include player sales and probably relevant to the sheep owner donations/equity injections but not owner loans.

They will likely have maximum wages and terms of contract that they can offer (Think its £8k a week and 2 year contracts) but if they are able to include money injected in to the club then I imagine they still have a bigger budget than most in league 1.

Its quite galling because like others have mentioned, in my mind every spare penny should be paying debts/tax not signing new players.

If McGoldrick signs its probably because at his age £8k for 2 years is better than 1 year at say £12k.

This is correct but Business Plans for financially mismanaged clubs- think of them as Special Measures not that I'm sure the EFL are the best organisation for this but anyway!

Think a Business Plan for a financially mismanaged club should supersede- EFL Insolvency Policy as per the EFL states that clubs should not gain an advantage via the act of Insolvency so in short, £5-6k per week would seem fine to me- 25 man squad at most, perhaps less- 23 as per the Professional Standing Embargo maybe?

Derby are allowed to go to 130% of turnover, as long as they don't pay the HMRC anything.

Fair enough for a founder member of the league.

Why stop there, they FOUNDED the league, it should be 130% of all combined league one turnover.

Hang on scratch that, its too harsh given that part of the approved business plan appears to have guaranteed Premier league football in 2 years, might as well base it on a similar sized Premier league club like Man United or Liverpool to allow for them to build a champions league ready squad.

The type of embargo they are operating under will be important too.

As I recall, a Professional Standing was the most draconian- anyone of any age who had played a minute of football except in the JPT would count towards a 23 man squad. Then there was the Established Player rule which was as follows:
"Established Player (Championship Clubs) - A player aged 21 or over as at the 30 June immediately prior to the commencement of the season in which the Club is subject to the Embargo and who has been named in the starting XI on a total of at least five occasions*.

There is also the Permitted Player rule- 25 man squad, anyone of any age who has made 3 starts or more at League 1 or above level or who is registered after the agreement.

These lot will have a big reality check when the new season starts. Signing a bunch of aging free agents isn’t gonna cut it in a competitive third division.

If there’s any justice Derby will go down again,

the poor sods fisted financially ( small businesses ) have endured stress and possible hardship for what? Providing a service they weren’t paid for.

I do believe in what goes around comes around let’s see if it becomes reality.*

* I do feel a little for the new owner as he’s bought a pup.

Is Ze List closed to new additions now the Sheep have been saved?
Maybe we should have a new Ze List with all the heartless bastards responsible for not letting them gain promotion from League One, once they start whining about that. I estimate the moaning will start around 5.00 on Saturday 30 July.

Lee Buchanan has left the Sheep for £400k to Werder Bremen.
Funnily enough they rejectewd £1.5m bid from Forest last summer.
Buchanan found a clause in his contract that included a release fee of £400k.
Great business Direby!
Contract Lawyers to go on Ze List?

They will be in for a shock when they realise what a club is willing to pay for a League One player, out of contract in a year and wanting to leave.

They never even got any decent money for their players in the Championship. Didn't Bogle & Lowe leave for about £3m combined?
