Summer 2022 Transfer Window

Heffing Psycho!

I think this is just the beginning mate, the names that will pop up as the window goes along might be even more crazy.

I was looking around at the amount teams relegated spend and it’s normally not much at all with the exception of Fulham who spent £100m once. It can amount to 40-50m with most teams but they are spread over several players between 6-9m. Sheffield United spent a bit over 2 seasons but they spent it so badly, McBurnie £20m, Brewster £22m, WTF!

I can honestly see us spending the most of any promoted team. Maybe Evangelos was telling the truth when he said we would need to reinvest all of the TV money.

Villa spent a lot their first season up, £140m or so iirc. I looked into it a few weeks ago and in general over the last few seasons the teams who have stayed up after coming up are the ones who have spent big. Brentford the obvious outliers, although they did get a huge player in Eriksen on a free.

Just as a point of reference AC Milan have a transfer kitty around €50m.

Premier league prices are obscene.
Seems a bit of an unfair comparison though as Milan have a squad that’s already built for both their league and champions league which they will only need to tinker with, where as we have a mid table championship squad which we need to turn into a premiership contender!

I reckon our name is being used by Williams agent to try and make one of the other interested clubs (most likely Southampton IMO) to make a move personally. I hope I'm wrong, but I just don't see us signing him. I think Kabore from City is far more likely than either Williams or Spence.

Not seen anything credible about MGW beyond us simply being an interested party, but Wolves will want a bidding war which we don't really have the time (and possibly the money) to get involved in.
Isn't £15 million too much for Southampton for a player that will most likely be displaced once Livramento is fit again assuming he recovers from his ACL?

Who knows...

I think you are doing us a disservice. We are a good club to join with an excellent manager and young squad. Look at the two that have joined/joining us already.

The leap between us and clubs like Southampton is not that different now.

And as for Gibbs-White that all depends whether he signs a deal at Wolves, if he doesn’t then our woo’ing will go a long way.

The Athletic put us at the front of the queue for both.

Southampton are an established Premier League club, I think most players would go there over a newly promoted side.

MGW will leave Wolves as they need to raise transfer funds, but they will be wanting a bidding war that we don't really have the time to get involved with.

I'd love to be proven wrong, but I just don't see either joining us this summer.

I realise it’s the market place we’re in but it’s just insane. For MGW money Milan bought one of the best lb’s in Europe if not the world.

I just can’t get my head around this premier league malarkey

I guess there are a could things. The draw of Milan is still a massive thing. So some lower prem clubs and even more established clubs are competing that.

But the main thing is the money. If you are selling to Milan you know they have a budget constraint because there isn’t the tv money. In the premier league there is huge revenue a selling club are gonna hold out for more.

To put things into context Fulham are after their captain apparently. The PL really does exist in a different world financially.

I think players want:
a) money
b) opportunity
c) a vision for the club
d) personal ties

I think we are a more exciting proposition for both players in these departments

Southampton, whilst established, have shown their hand investment and ambition wise (both mediocre). We at least can make an argument for more. At that point, as long as we can match up salary wise, we have the edge, bolstered by both players having friends in our building

We’re going to spend big and quite frankly we need too, we were the third team to go up and half our team was on loan.

Even if all the loans were our players we’d need to spend a good chunk.

EM told us he wasn’t f***ing about this summer and I’m glad he meant it, buckle up as we’re in for one hell of a ride.

Yeah we still have such a long way to go, but are linked with all the right players, so few duds linked for once.

The fact something like the following is not only in budget (supposedly), but we are also linked with this sort of line up heavily and now apparently at the front of the queue for them is crazy.

For the princely sun of 4m too

Romagnoli has been on the wane for a while though. Recently he couldn’t get past the third choice right back who was playing in his position (cb).

That'd be interesting if we did end up with more of the typical 3-5-2 with two attacking midfielders like that.

I'd completely missed that Aribo was being linked somehow, but he certainly seems to have a more than decent amount of skill does the lad doesn't he!

Exactly

I agree completely.

Young players will want to come here and play. We can guarentee game time for players like MGW & Williams that established Prem teams can't. I don't really agree with the notion agents are just using us to get interest elsewhere.

I think him and Gibbs White could be so valuable for Cooper. Would allow us to do so many different things. Both obviously attack minded midfielders, but capable and experienced in a box to box role, and out wide.

We’ve seen Cooper make in game adjustments many times and we could move to 3-4-3, 3-4-1-2, 4-4-2, 4-2-3-1 with minimal fuss with their versatility (and not like Greg Halford versatility where he’s at best invisible in numerous roles)

So let me get this right at the moment the players that we seem to going for/getting are
International midfielder Domen Crnigoj
England international Maitland Niles
Looks nailed on ...Niakhate
Impressive Moran Gibbs-White
European experienced international midfielder Aribo
International striker Moises Kean
Argentine stalwart Tagliofico
Neco Williams
And we've a remote possibility that we might still be in with a shout of Djed as well

.... just checking

Haha i know, we’re aiming low. Should be in for *insert 10 goal league 1 striker here* instead

That is true, and this is hypothetical because no-one knows, but I think our final league position would have been different if Cooper had been in charge for the first 7 games. So although the league table never lies, I personally think we were better than fourth in reality. If that makes sense

I think it could be a fair call, although I know it might be said we lost to Bournemouth when there was the chance to prove that (not that it mattered). The cup games against Leicester, Arsenal, even Liverpool might suggest so too.

It would bode well because I'd say the team that ended 93/94 was better than 2nd too (and just added Bryan Roy and came 3rd in the Premier League), and by the looks of it the team of 76/77 was better than 3rd (maybe that was more a consistency issue, although a new central defence and goalie as well as Gemmill in midfield were added for 77/78). With so many loans there would be the danger of going the other way and probably having a better team in the 2nd tier than the one that played in the 1st tier (like 97/98 and 98/99, and we know how that ended!), but it seems like that's not going to happen now!

This team would keep us up and play decent stuff.
