Couldn't be a finer compination. The Music are awesome and rather underappreciated.

As for the Stone Roses - Best Band Ever.
Have to say i agree regarding The Music, great band and severely underplayed, though their latest offering was getting airplay when i was in California in November, which impressed me

    Kinks - The Ultimate Collection.

An unwanted Xmas pressie and mostly crap.

When did I ever mention to family that The Kinks were good?

Maybe I did, and yes, they wrote a handful of great songs, but a 2-CD set?

    Queen

    Don't Stop Me Now

The ultimate uplifting song by a moustached poofta - I love it.

It's also the theme tune of 'Shaun of the dead' which has, amazingly, been selected as our Media Studies examination movie - 2 hours and 3 essays on Shaun of the bloody dead

Kasabian, if that's what they are called. They are from Rutland, not Les da, please. Their new album is the best thing I have heard in years.

Wasn't one of Kasabian (the French one?) at Forest's youth academy at one point? Or is that just crappus?

    "Marquee Moon" by Television.

    For older posters...

A friend tried to turn me on to Interpol the other day... jeez, I was listening to The Psychedelic Furs 20 years ago and they're just the same!

Best thing that Queen did was Somebody to Love, and only when George Michael covered it

I quite liked it when Freddie died.

    {sorry - having a bad day} :-[

I will expand. I have no time for Mercury because of his cowardice facing death. He knew he was HIV+, dying of AIDS and yet never came out. Oh, I'm mistaken having looked it up - he came out the day before he died. Fat lot of good that did. This was a long time ago - 1991 - and the climate was different to todays.

At that time there was a lot of work to be done educating people and removing stigmas about AIDS. Mercury, in his privileged position with a huge fan-base, could have done a huge service to the world, but declined.

The millions raised by the Mercury Phoenix trust and donated to the Terrence Higgins Trust had nothing to do with Mercury - merely posthumous gestures cashing in on his name, and a drop in the ocean compared to what he could have done with his sordid life.

Sorry if this all sounds cruel, but it is truly what I think.

As for that Posturing Poodle May - why can't he just get old gracelessly like Keef?

    Rant Over.

Back to the thread - Siouxie and The Banshees. Hypnotised.

    (Crap, actually)

I think it's a fantastic feel good song, there are many more examples of 80s tack that are far more cringeworthy, trust me

for once we agree Alex, though i dont find it cringeworthy at all. Queen are one of the finest groups to ever emerge from Britain. Sure you are all welcome to your opinions, you're just wrong

Blimey! Should I concede in the light of popular opinion?

If Skag and AC consider Queen to be one of the finest bands to come out of the UK who am I to argue?

Or should I play the age card?

Maybe I will, for the hell of it.

You should check out your back-catologs, coz these bands pissed on Queenie.

    IMHO

Rock Bands only - I won't get into other stuff...

    The Beatles
    Rolling Stones
    The Who
    Small Faces
    Cream
    Black Sabbath
    Deep Purple
    Led Zeppelin
    Pink Floyd
Jimi Hendrix Experience (Brit by association)

I'm not a fan of all of those bands, but recognise their contributions.

Moving forward a few years ... The Clash, U2, Oasis, Manic Steet Preachers and even Blur can tell you more about life than Queen.

    Fat Bottomed Girls :-\

    Flash :-\

    Radio GaGa :-\

Which of the above bands wrote songs so crap as those?

Even the "popular" "anthemnic" songs like Another One Bites The Dust, We Are The Champions and We Will Rock you just reek of the Rock By Numbers school of songwriting. I listen to them and retch. Honestly.

    No Heart. No Soul. Empty.

    I rest my case.
