Default Matchday 40: Nottingham Forest Vs Bristol City

    Things were better when...........

Social Distancing means your missing on on......

0 wins in the last 7 for Bristol, with only 2pts from that 21 available. I think it's fair to say this should be another game which we should be looking to get a full 3pts from.

No game in the champ is easy, but a win here will put us in a position where drawing against the Sheep is OK IMO. Anything less and we put pressure on ourselves for a massive game.

In Lamouchi we trust you sexy French bastard.

Bristol City are a dangerous side.

They have goals and quality in their squad.

But they're also vulnerable and look like conceding too.

They will come here HAVING to win to stand a chance at sneaking 6th place. Which might play into our hands, as we can then sit back a bit.

I suspect they'll start Diehdou who is a big bastard and causes most defences problems, with Wells playing off him in behind and running off the shoulder.

They do over commit though and I think we'll be able to break on them well.

Be interesting to see if Watson can play, and if Sow will be fit for it.

Johnson has lost the fans today and rumour has it he is to be fired and Houghton has agreed terms.

Strangely he played Afobe as a left winger today when they had a winger playing central midfield, seems to have lost his head.

Another great match day thread Alf, still peeing myself, especially the Bristol emblem.

    Long may it continue.

In the past 11 games they've only scored more than 1 goal in a game once.

a 1/11 ratio of >1 goals should be something our defence should cope with IMO.

I'm far more confident about beating this lot than I was about beating Hudders today

... which probably means we'll lose!

Either way I'm off to listen to Avril Lavigne

This one is going to be a tough one. They're a team in decline right now but it's a must win for them so you kind of hope they buckle.
Afobe always seems to get a goal against us, Wells is light on his feet too and Diedhiou is a big barstool, which as the season has shown, we can't deal with.

Win this and it sinks them, gives us a bit of an extra cushion and some more confidence with 6 games left.

Think it's actually going to be this game and the Preston game in a couple weeks that define what happens to us next.

I think Watson will be benched to save him for D****, with Yates coming in.

I could also see da Costa replacing Sammy to give us a more direct running threat.

I'd go with resting Watson, he needs nursing through this busy period but I'd rather see Bostock sit in there than Yates. The experience back there showing today, I'd love to see how he'd get on with Silva, or even Yates.

Some teams have adapted to the fresh start well, like Wigan. Some haven't, like Brizzle. They are fast sliding to mid table obsurity so expect them to come at us to keep their playoff challenge alive. That'll suit us of course.

Given their form I also agree we’ve got to be looking for 3 points here, but you know, anything can happen with Forest.

2-1 Forest and a nail biting end to the game.

Hopefully not before Wednesday! I'll gladly see us put the final nail in the coffin for him, i'm not a fan of him personally.

Hughton would do well there, they have a lot of quality, just really lack resolve.

They generally like to sit and counter-attack. And have enough attacking talent to be a problem. Kasey Palmer is like their Joao Carvalho situation. Not being picked but the fans want to see him creating for Afobe, Diedhou and Wells.

But their GK, defence and centre-mid situation has been shakey.

They will have to be a tad more adventurous than they would have been if they won today. 5 points behind 6th, games running out, pressure on the manager and they could more desperate as the game goes on. Think we might have to patient in this game.

    Spot on.

They do have some real talent. But if we can shackle them (Dhiedou - can't spell his name - will be their biggest threat if he plays) then they will be forced to really open up, and we can punish them.

I'd rather we played a full strength side in this match and gave fresh legs a chance vs Derby than the other way round. Three points really are for the taking given Bristol's form and then you've got 67 points and just need a couple more wins to get top six having effectively created a 10 gap with 7 to play, giving the possibility of resting some players and avoiding the obligatory and unnecessary red or injury against Derby and beyond.

Trust Sabri to be smart about the run in, make sure we've got a fully fit squad and as few injuries as possible to take into the play-offs. If that means sacrificing the Derby game somewhat then whatever, there's bigger prizes at stake.

If Samba Sow comes back into the 20. Who misses out ?

    Bostock
    Yates Carvalho
    Mighten Walker Nuno

Walker ? The only attacking sub not used today ?

You'd suspect Walker, as both Nuno and Mighten can play their anyway.

Looking very much like he will be sold in the summer.

Will be sad, but also the best option for him. He is someone who if is backed will score goals. But we just don't have that type of patience to show him unfortunately. A max of 10/15mins here will do nothing for him at all.

Hopefully we can get a 7 figure fee and sell on %, and he goes away and is a success somewhere.

Would be happy with that 20.

A sale does look on the cards. Quite a few clubs seem to be interested too. Think he can definitely build a good Championship career and like you say, timing wise it probably is best for all parties.

Hopefully the right club comes along for him. Like you say, he definitely can build a career for himself and i'm sure in time he'll score goals at this level, with the right opportunities.

They probably won't have the money or be at this level, but a Luton/Barnsley/Wigan would be ideal. He'd be the main man or one of, and they all play decent football and create chances.

Exactly, best team out for Bristol & the Derby game will look after itself

We can’t let the emotion of the Derby game distract us from a potential 3 points on Wednesday
