    Default The Christmas 2019 Thread

Now we are officially in December, I have great pleasure in being permitted to talk about all things Christmas.

I appreciate this time of year holds good and bad memories for many people, and this year in particularly will be quite difficult for me, but I will be celebrating and raising many a glass for those I can share it with whilst remembering those I can’t.

Today, I have dedicated my time to dressing my home in all manner of twinkle and sparkle and the house smells of pine, gingerbread and cinnamon.

    So, post your festivities here......

'Intelligence without ambition is a bird without wings' - Salvador Dali 1904-1989

I think 'odd' is a good thing. Oddness shows originality, uniqueness and a desire to be different from the masses. Oddness is, maybe, only deemed 'odd' by the majority who are considered less odd but only by their own blinkered observations and understanding. Oddness should never be criticised but be encouraged to nurture, develop individualism and to explore the mind rather than conform to expectation and 'normality'. Many of the world's greatest works of art and prose were born from those minds many considered to be 'odd'.

I love baking, especially at Christmas, but always struggle with making a sweet pastry for mince pies.

Can anyone suggest a melt-in-the-mouth recipe that doesn’t crumble and any tips?

It should crumble, I agree, but only once you get it to your mouth. I think the high butter content of my pastry makes it a bit too short.

    I'd manage!

Same about mince pies and Christmas cake. Hated them up until about 5 years ago. Now would fight you for them. ‘Don’t bulleh meh’ style.

Too soon for me. Christmas is a holiday I think about a few days before, well, Christmas. I don't like this modern concept of Christmas festivities from December 1.

The shops seem to have decorations up earlier this year. I hope they won't make a habit of it.
I came out here to get away from all that sort of shit.

I might have a go at baking , it's usually my youngest who loves it.

Going to have beef this year but not sure what yet, any suggestions?

Rib of beef, get a big 'un so there's plenty of rare beef for sandwiches, that's what we're having.

I was thinking along those lines. We have a very good butcher near us and I will nip and see him later this week.

I did this recipe for the first time about seven years ago now, as a change from Turkey.

Literally everyone who is coming for Christmas Day now, asks me, without fail, every year "Are you doing that beef again?"

Too much sugar might make your pastry crumble.

I’m going in for Paul Hollywood’s recipe which actually has more sugar than my recipe. Hmmmmm.

    I’ll let you know.

They’re in the oven, along with Nutella pies for those in the family who do not like mince pies.

If they last that long, then you can have one. Anymore orders?
