Default Matchday 20: Millwall vs Nottingham Forest

After being out-Forested by a well-drilled Cardiff side at home, the Reds travel to south London and Bermondsey, home to many a distinguished luminary including Issac Buxton, The Venerable Mother Mary Potter, and Michael Barrymore.

Much huffing and puffing couldn't beat Cardiff's first man last time out with Forest recording thirty two shots on goal, with only two on target. Sabri Lamouchi's men will need to tighten up their game and adopt a different approach to the brute force attack that saw them pile on the pressure with little end product and ultimately no goals.

Millwall for their part sit slap bang in the middle of the table, sitting as they do in thirteenth place going into the their twentieth game of the campaign. However their home form is good, having won three and drawn two of their last five matches at the Den. Forest will be hoping to counter this with their own decent away form that has seen them win two and draw two of their last five matches on the road, the last of which being a 4-0 thumping of former Reds boss Mark Warburton's QPR side.

Recent form in this fixture places Millwall on top with the last three matches returning two wins and draw against Forest in their last three meetings in south London. Forest's last win at the Den being a 2-1 victory in the League Cup at the start of the 2016/17 season.

Injury-wise last Saturday's match saw the return of Alfa Semedo to the side, and the Reds head coach will be grateful for options in midfield to nullify the Lion's attacking threat from the centre of the park in the form of attacking midfielder Jed Wallace who was netted seven goals from that position for the men in blue this season.

Michael Dawson is a further option for Forest having returned to the side on the bench against Bristol City, being kept out of the starting eleven only an increasingly marture Joe Worrall and some brilliantly resurgent defensive performances from the imposing Tobias Figueiredo.

Sitting two points within the playoff places with a game in hand on their rivals, can the men from Nottingham grab a second away win on the bounce and cement their place in the top six? Can Millwall mount a push for the playoffs with another solid home performance? Will Michael Barrymore ever recover from the nefarious incident in his swimming pool?

    Only time will tell...

I'm going...we have to win there this season....2-0 to us. Hopefully the game is over long before the end and the local bell ends have gone home.....my last train is just after 11.00pm.....so I need to get away from the New Den sharpish. Message to Sabri....don't start with Silva AND Carvalho......we need more beef in midfield early on..

We're going. I hate the place. It's embarrassing that away fans have to be herded in and out of the ground and are put out of harms way in the upper tier only.
We'll go by car to the edge of the tube - Stanmore or Cockfosters and tube/train it around London. We need a win.

A draw I reckon, then back to winning ways.

I’d love to smash Polly Jean from that era as well.

    1-1.

7-0 to Reds. All goals in the first half hour. Boring last 60 minutes.

You could have left it at that.

We won't lose. Our strength is in doing what Cardiff did to us today, and that's what we'll do to these.

Semedo to start, Silva back in attack. Not ideal, but today put the final nail in the Silva-Carva setup for me.

If we'd another good forward to compliment Grabs, I think we'd be seeing 4-4-2 instead, but we aint. Yet.

Back to winning ways on the road I reckon.

    Samba
    Cash Figs Dawson Robinson
    Semedo Watson
    Lolley Silva Carvalho
    Grabban

Without Carvalho pulling up any trees out wide, I think Ameobi needs a break & Adomahs gone off a cliff. Think theres enough on the counter
    there to take Millwall.

    Win.

I like this team... cliche after cliche but important not to read too much into Cardiff defeat. We battered them for 75 minutes. Another day, luck shining down, we'd have come out comfortable winners. Over a season there will be more games like that.

Easily get a result there. Start confidently and play to our strengths and we should have too much for them.

By the way I will be doing a proper matchday thread, PJ is just a placeholder. But a rather lovely placeholder.

I genuinely have no idea who she is, I thought it was Whitney Dean at first

By jingo, there’s a couple of places I wouldn’t mind holding her!

Not many home crowds will allow their team to employ Cardiff's tactics. It's an away tactic, which gives me some hope as if this was at the CG I would be worried.

However, as we're away: 2-0 to Forest.

    This is a huge game.

Need to prove to ourselves we can deal with the type of game these, Cardiff, Sheff Wed... bring.

They'll be resolute, physical, niggly and play for set pieces.

I'd be putting Dawson in personally, with them having Jake Cooper who is such a threat with the ball to the back post for him to head back across.

Luton away was a test of our resolve to see if we could bounceback from a couple of poor result.
We passed that test and this is the next big test.

I think we sneak a late win.

We're a better attacking side with Ribierio starting ahead of Robinson. Semedo back into the starting side will give us a little more energy in midfield, and allow Silva to play further forward. Adomah has been dire recently, and I'd like to see Ameobi come on from the bench to stretch the Millwall defence late on.
