    Default Most hurtful play-off defeat?

Sheffield United - This one for me. Absolutely heartbreaking. Thought we were going to Cardiff when Reidy put us 2-0 up at Bramall Lane. A real shame that Michael Brown scored just after we scored in both legs.

Yeovil - Well, this was just embarrassing. 3-1 up on aggregate with ten minutes to go and we blew it. Freak own goal by Alan Wright and Paul Smith not coming for a cross. Then Wes' short back-pass.

Blackpool - Bloody DJ Campbell. They seemed to score whenever they attacked. Twice led thanks to Earnie but all to no avail. Billy's mind games didn't work. Blackpool beat us four times that season.

Swansea - Ten-man Swansea for the entire first leg and we didn't take advantage. Should have started with Boyd and Earnie instead of Tudgay and McGoldrick in the second leg. Unlucky late on when we hit the bar and post.

Yeovil worse than the Blunts? No way, IMO.

    Why?

    Just....why?

(And of anyone posts that picture of Desmond Sinclair Walker and Harty, you’ll meet my friend Mr. B. Hammer!)

„I believe in socialism because it seems more humanitarian, rather than every man for himself and 'I'm alright jack' and all those arsehole businessmen with all the loot. I made up my mind from viewing society from that angle. That's where I'm from and there's where I've made my decisions from. That's why I believe in socialism“

It’s akin to posting a photo and a heartfelt missive to your first girlfriend, whilst simultaneously smashing panel-pins into your cock with a ballpein hammer.

    Sheff United.

We were relatively unscarred at that point. Like a break up with your first girlfriend.

It was a nice team as well - good lads.

    And Des... oh Des...too much

Sheff U for me. I have never got over it. That and the FA Cup final against Spurs were my lowest.

If we were ever going to go up it was that year - 2002/2003.

Ward, Louis-Jean, Brennan, Walker, Dawson, Scimeca, Prutton, Williams, Reidy, Huckerby, Lester, Johnson, Harewood.

Best football I've seen in a long time watching Forest that season.

The roar when DJ put us one up was unreal. I reckon we would have won by two or three (we were so strong at home that season) if the Blunts didn't get a penalty immediately after we scored.

Then in the second leg that wanker Michael Brown got them back into the game straight away again after Reidy made it 2-0.

Wolves would have been tough in the final though, but we were a good side.

    Sheff Utd. Absolute heartbreak.

Yeovil was just bizarre and the other two sort of felt a bit inevitable

It got easier to take as it went on, by Swansea I was immune to it

    Sheffield United.

My first footballing heartbreak. Was only 13 at the time and was absolutely gutted. Going two up in the second leg, then seeing it all slip away and having to see Des knock it in his own net was just brutal.

I also remember being seething at Warnock's post-match comments, though I honestly can't recall what he said.

Such a tough one to take. As others have mentioned, we were magnificent that season. Gutted it never went for us on the night.

Sheff U because they were a club of cheating c**ts from top to bottom. The other clubs we lost to I didn't feel robbed by.

The reason I say Yeovil is because whilst the Shef Utd defeat was a tough one to take, at the time I thought we were punching above our weight and was just happy to be up there after the ITV Digital collapse and its effect on the club.

With Yeovil it consigned us to another season in that god awful league, watching players like Danny Cullip and Gary Holt play shit football against teams like Cheltenham and Walsall.

For me, it goes to Yeovil. I managed to stay out until 7 AM, waking up in Riley's with the mother of all headaches and heartaches. Nottingham centre was like a scene from the Omega Man. I seem to remember it being a rather violent night as most fans went on the piss after the game and started fights with each other. I did wonder whether we would see happiness ever again.

Sheffield United is a close second. Utter heartbreak for my young self and a devastating feeling for Des. He didn't deserve that. We didn't deserve that.

Blackpool and Swansea in equal measure. What's worse? DJ Campbell running a mockery or a Darren Pratley 50 yarder?

    Sheff Utd by a mile.

Enjoyable team to watch, felt connected with the club, no ego's, we were the better team over the two legs and Dawson's red card in first leg was completely unjust. It felt like we were cheated out of it, it just felt wrong.

Yeovil was infuriating, embarrassing, but we didn't deserve it over the two legs.

Blackpool we didn't deserve to go through.

Swansea we didn't deserve to go through.

Yeovil for me, went to both legs and even though they were the better side in both games it condemned us to another season in league one and the utter embarrassment was hard to bear.
