I remember 1 game when an English got the situation wrong, Gladbach were playing Dortmund and he said it was The Borussia Derby!

„Borussia“ just means „Prussia“ in Hochdeutsche, and harks back to the Prussian Empire (the forerunner to the current Federal Republic, if you will.

It’s a bit like how West Ham have tagged „London“ on to their name, for all those die-hard Chinese (a great bunch of lads) supporters who couldn’t find West Ham on a map.

„I believe in socialism because it seems more humanitarian, rather than every man for himself and 'I'm alright jack' and all those arsehole businessmen with all the loot. I made up my mind from viewing society from that angle. That's where I'm from and there's where I've made my decisions from. That's why I believe in socialism“

Oh and there‘s only one derby Dortmund are interested in; the Ruhr valley „Revier-Derby“ against Schalke 04, when much of the Ruhr comes to a standstill.

True although Der Klassicker is now as big a rivalry as that.

I sometimes bet on the various Aussie league games, a plethora of unique names there:

    1. The Gap
    2. Acacia Ridge
    3. Peninsula Power (could be the power station team originally or still)
    4. Moggill (imagine having a name like that!)
    5. Marconi Stallions (probably putting the nick with the name, like what the Malaysian guy wanted to do for Hull)
    6. Danedong Thunder ( I like betting on their matches, usually a goal fest)
    7. Green Gully
    8. Floreat Athena
    9. Manly United (should be a favourite with the gay community!)
    10. Dulwich Hill (their games are anything but dull, 3 goals is a certainty most times)

Isn't there a Start from Norway too? Or is it Finnish?

Odd playing Start, what an Odd Start to the game!

That’s right - mostly a tragic one. They estimate 8 million people died in the mines of potosi and they dug enough silver out to build a bridge back to Spain. There’s a chilling atmosphere everywhere.

    This is the best fact of all time for me;

Young Boys play in the Wankdorf Stadium!

How's that for a line, and I shit you not.

Even more hilariously, „Wankdorf“ means „Wank Village“ in German.

I had a bet yesterday on Wolves v Lions. The Wollongong Wolves beat The Queensland Lions in extra-time

Dynamo Moscow are the electricity board's team.

By "relegation battle", do you mean 7th, 12th or 14th?

Strange name for a club but the real oddity is their stadium.

Ottmar Hitzfeld - Der General - is still lionised in Switzerland for his playing and coaching success there.

He’s also famed for his exploits as a player in Germany of course (as well as his managerial success at Dortmund and Bayern). He still holds the individual record for goals in a single match in the 2. Bundesliga, after he put six past SSV Jahn Regensburg in one game back in the 70s whilst playing for VfB Stuttgart (for whom he averaged almost one goal in two matches).

Can't wait until we play in the Billy Davies Arena. Naming rights sold to the man himself to promote his name back into football management. The year....2042

This man could give Cloughie a run for the greatest. Records quite similar. 2 European Cups. League Champions with 2 different clubs (Germany) Like Forest, brought Dortmund to first ever European Cup and first Bundesliga (although they did win the precursor tournament in the 50s, I believe) Damn bloody good striker when young.

Unfazed like Cloughie. I remember Bayern's 2001 triumph. First they beat Man Utd and then Real in the quarters and semis. After the victory over United, fireworks at the Olympiastadion (bloody great stadium that). Gloria Gaynor's I will Survive blasting on the tannoy, and revenge for 1999, there stood Hitzfeld like Clough, unfazed, expressionless surveying his lordship over it all.
It was repeated this time with Queen's - We're the Champions after the Madrid triumph.
