Love the Hearts of Oak crest that Strummer posted. Great name as well.

I was also looking at the English influence in South America. There's a club in Vina del Mar, Chile called Everton and one called Liverpool who play in Uruguay's top division.

I remember playing against Shepshed Charterhouse in my younger days.

Always thought it was a bit OTT for the name of a kids team.

Can't believe the legendary Chicken Inn F.C. haven't been mentioned. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Chicken_Inn_F.C.

I always thought Folkestone Invicta, Shepshed Dynamo, Loughborough Dynamo and Coventry Sphinx had cool names.

Always thought Everton to be a strange name. Obviously there's a suburb of Liverpool called Everton but what does the word even mean... so I've looked it up...

"The name Everton is derived from the Saxon word eofor, meaning wild boar that lives in forests."

Ok, but 'lived in our what' though?

Sammy Clingan must be their Captain.

    Huracan (Argentina)

The origins of club names is interesting. Racing Club for instance was named after a French auto racing magazine that circulated in Argentina. Huracan was named after the hot air balloon of an early Argentine aviator.
I told the wife about the Quick Boys and that it gave me an idea. She replied, Quickly forget it, BOY!

Take some beating? Yes Harvey. But what about matching....

    Below: An Owd C**t

Can't tell from your pic Harvey, but I'm guessing the crab isn't depicted as having just pissed itself down a leg.

There's another Arsenal in Argentina but they are named after one of the main government arsenals in the Buenos Aires suburb of Avellaneda. The guys who formed the club were admirers of the two Avellaneda clubs Racing and Independiente so they took their combined colours. That's why Arsenal wear sky blue and red. As we know, Independiente wear red because of Forest, so we indirectly influenced another club's colours as well.

Another of the many oddities in Argentina involving club colours involves Boca Juniors. In the early 1900s they were playing a club named, of all things, Nottingham de Almagro and they had almost identical kits. It was agreed that the loser of the match would give up their colours and adopt new ones. Boca lost the match and agreed that they would adopt the colours of the next ship that sailed into the harbour in the Boca district. It just happened to be a Swedish ship and that is why (according to legend) to this day Boca wear blue and gold.

CSKA - or, in Russian, Центральный спортивный клуб Армии, means „Central Army Sports Club“ and is a mutli-Sports club ( not just football, they have ice Hockey amongst other sports). You also find similar-named clubs such as CSKA Sofia in Bulgaria, again original,y supported by the army.

Torpedo are from the „Torpedo“ car assembly plant. See post #25 above. Their nickname is literally „car assembly workers“.

Dynamo, or, in Russian, Russian: Московская городская организация Всероссийского физкультурно-спортивного oбщества «Динамо», stands for (clears throat) „Moscow City Organization of the All-Russian Physical Culture and Sports Society "Dynamo" otherwise known as MGO VFSO "Dynamo", or just „Dynamo“ for short. They are also a multi-sports organisation, playing a dozen or so different sports. Note that Dynamo were originally backed by the Moscow Police.

Lokomotiv Moscow - Футбольный клуб "Локомотив" Москва - came about in 1924, when the best players who played for various railway teams were put together in one all-Star side.

Spartak Moscow - Футбольный клуб Спартак Москва - were formed as a reaction to those sides formed from military (CSKA), Police (Dynamo) and industrial (Lokomotiv) roots; the Spartak Sporting Society was formed by trade-unionists, and Spartak were known as „The Peoples‘ Club“. And still are, actually.

Since Dynamo Kyiv went off to the Ukrainian League, Spartak Moscow are now Russia’s most successful team.
