Default MATCHDAY 8 - Nottingham Forest v Barnsley

Harvey has mentioned a few times that he is struggling to continue creating matchday threads so I thought I would take the initiative to assist for this week. My thread certainly won't be as good as the ones Harvey produced.

Back to back wins are required in order to maintain Forests climb up the table and to break into the play off spots. There is a feel good factor around the club at the moment after producing another outstanding win away from home at Swansea and another win would see some good momentum building.

Forest have only lost one game all season which came on the opening day whilst Barnsleys fortunes are somewhat the opposite as they won on the opening day at home to Promotion favourites Fulham. That win alone provides caution that Barnsley can beat anyone on their day and should not be taken lightly despite not winning any games away from home or even managing a single goal.

Barnsley had their back four decimated during the summer transfer window losing key players such as Kinnock. Their struggle to defend set pieces and balls into the box reflects their loss of personnel in this area.

Barnsley do play some good football and will be unlikely to simply sit back as their strengths lie in moving the ball forward quickly and playing through the lines at pace. Their previous recruitment philosophy of not signing players over the age of 25 which works to the extent of allowing them to produce players with a good resale value to finance the club appears to be their downfall too as a young the young squad struggles with experience to see games through in key areas and times.

Default MATCHDAY 8 - Nottingham Forest vs Barnsley FC

MATCHDAY 8 - NOTTINGHAM FOREST vs BARNSLEY FC

The mighty reds dominated the league leaders last time out at Swansea, giving the following faithful license to sing the 'E I E I E I O, UP THE FOOTBALL LEAGUE WE GO' song for what seems like the first time in about 7 years. Confidence is high, Lamouchi seems to be getting the team to play for himself and importantly for each other. Considering every team Forest have played has been above us in the table, a home game against opposition less well ranked in the table could be seen as a banana skin. Barnsley are 22nd without a win in 6 - can Forest punish them, or do they turn their form around at the City Ground?

Good to see MXJ back, felt a bit uneasy about the sequence being broken.

Been having a think and looking at the stats etc this has all the makings of a banana skin game. We need to go at them, score lots of goals and win.

    Simple.

I've removed all the posts before MXJ starts his matchday thread (sorry Notcher!) in a desperate attempt to thwart fate.

If (gods forbid) we lose then I'll put them back and we can all blame Notcher!

    Might be for the best.

What happens if we win though does it mean I have to start it, MXJ resume it and then have mine removed . I'm not sure how far back we go for superstion Frantic

Oddly enough, the wins against Fulham and Swansea, while thrilling, don't really prove very much. We have a decent enough record in recent seasons against the good sides. It's the routine games that have constantly dragged us down.
So a good, no-nonsense professional win here would be a real sign that we're going places.
I'm very optimistic, partly because professional is exactly what we look like and partly because we now have the physical presence not to be harried and bullied by teams that come to smash and grab.
But we'll have to approach this with the same mentality we showed last Saturday, the same energy and commitment. Do that and we win. 2-0 to the Garibaldi.

Their full backs are poor, they are a mess when defending set pieces, but they do create chances at the other end.

We will destroy them down the flanks and smash them at set pieces. Silva and Adomah need to start this one.

It only takes a second to score a goal.

Lolley to come back in for Adomah. Not sure anything else needs changing.

Losing this 0-1 would be typical Forest but maybe we're not typical anymore.
2-1 Forest, Barnsley score late and it's a nervy finish

Blame me. I've voted for a Forest win and I've learnt over time that whenever I do that we have a tendency to lose.

This has the potential of being a banana skin and we do have a habit of being charitable to struggling teams or teams sat towards the bottom of the table, turning their season around.

However, having so far come away with something from the stronger teams in the league, with the exception of WBA, I am hoping that we'll push on and put away the weaker teams which is something we will consistently have to do if we are to stand a chance of being in the play offs come the end of the season.

4-1 to us if we play well, 0-2 to them if we don't turn up.

First 7 games against teams above us tested Lamouchi and he wasn't found wanting.

Next 7+ are against teams below us - time for him to find out if his side has permanently hanging balls or if they only drop for the bigger occasion. And time for us to find out if the picture on the lid of this jigsaw puzzle is a good one or not.

If they play for Lamouchi, 2-0. If they don't we'll see stuff we've seen all to often before. I think they'll play for Lamouchi - and so they bloody well should.

    This in droves.

These aren't a Preston, they've some very exploitable chinks in their armour.

Being as so far it's been exclusively top 10 oppo's this one is the real test of the mettle to see if we've progressed from last season. No banana skin here thanks. Sabri won't allow it.

2-0 to the tricky's with an inquest to follow on why so many missed chances!

Do you play Silva and the two big wingers just for the set pieces then?

    Samba
    Cash
    Joe
    Daws
    Ribbo
    Sow
    Carva
    Silva
    Adomah
    Ameobi
    Grabban

Means Lolley on the bench again.
