He will get a week’s rest before the Stoke game. Also, if we are winning there’s always the option of bringing him off early.

Yes there's arguments on both sides. Maybe I should have been clearer as when I said rested I was thinking more in terms of a game to avoid injury to him. I'd have no issue with him playing and coming off early if possible either really. I just think that we do have the opportunity to give Mir the nod for this one and it wouldn't surprise me if that's what Sabri did.

He is perfectly fit, had a weeks rest and the next league game isn't for another 6 days.

I don't get the logic in 'resting' Grabban? This isn't a league you rest players, every match is a slog.

I dont see complacency creeping in to the Barnsley game.

    Grabban has to play.

As per my post above I'm talking about trying to avoid injury to him in games where we should still have enough to beat the side in front of us without him.

You might be right and Mir will get the nod, although I don’t see why Grabban needs a rest at this point.

Apparently Mir looks impressive in training... but I don’t think we should underestimate Barnsley. I am confident we will get the win, but they are no pushovers. Also, Grabban just put in arguably his best performance of the season.

Grabban was as fit as I've ever seen him last weekend after the international break so I believe that rest did make a difference.

As others have said if he does needs a rest, make it Arsenal not the much more important league matches.

I'd be happy enough with Mir starting and Grabban on the bench. Not a game I'm massively bothered about us winning if I'm honest.

I take your point about the league fixtures being the most important ones this season.
In fact, you can probably be safe in saying that for any season, as for clubs like ours it is the League position and the media revenue it brings that is critical to the clubs' financial survival.
However, it was only a few seasons ago that our form went to pot after we were drawn to play against Tottenham Hotspurs in a Cup game.
The manager chose to regard this as a low importance fixture and "rested" a number of the key first team players.
What the manager failed to take into account was the impact such a decision had on many of the senior players' morale.
They had been looking forward to the chance of playing against one of the historic glamour sides of the English leagues, and to test themselves against top-level players.
We lost the cup fixture (as expected), but more seriously the league form took a serious dip, and the players appeared to be not giving their all for the manager.
I may be wrong in my interpretation of those by-gone days, but I believe there is more than a grain of truth in my belief.
I doubt many of us genuinely believe Forest will make it to the League Cup Final this season, but for the players, the chance to strut their stuff at the Emirates does have meaning and importance.

Barnsley won their first League game and have not won since. Are they really going to come out, all guns blazing, leaving great gaps everywhere behind for us to fill our boots?

I don't think so. Which is why we must play our best attack, to take advantage of any chances that come our way.

After the Lord Mayor's Show, this game will be gritty, boring and tough against a team fighting to rise up the table.

I just thank God we're finally rid of players with such a piss poor mentality.

If the story is true, I completely agree.

You’ve got to be a bit dim or lacking in ambition to think that a game against a Premier League youth team in the cup means you’ve made it.

I don't care what the team is going to be, I'd be happy to see any of our squad start.

    Total faith in Sabri atm.

Mir wouldn't get a look in for me. Rest Grabban in the cup, not league.

If we're 10pts clear at the top of the table in Dec then rest Grabs for a game like this, but not now.

Our tails are up. Forge ahead with confidence like a flock of wild geese.

I'd be very surprised to see anyone rested for this.

SL picks teams for individual fixtures and although the Arsenal game is a great bonus, it isn't a priority like the league.

With Carva being a bit leggy & still building himself back up, it wouldn't surprise me to see him on the bench, with Silva starting instead.

Something like that could easily happen, but it would be about managing Carvalho's return properly rather than saving him for a cup game.

Personally I wouldn't mind him starting on the bench in both. If we aren't in front against the Dingles by half time bring him on then.

One manager who I've total faith in getting the subs right is Mouch.

We're almost like for like in every area of the pitch aside from up front.

Mir looks to weakens us dramatically.

(cue for a Mir hatrick Saturday)

Like most strikers, probably needs a run of games and confidence.

Grabban's tyres took time to get up to temperature, so I'm sure Mir's will too
