Default Nottingham Evening Post On Line Nottingham Forest Page.

Sorry to start a new thread but could not find anywhere recent to post this in.
The Nottingham Evening Post’s on line Nottingham Forest page has become a cross between the worst tabloid, Billy’s Weekly Liar (for those that remember that) and, an internet key trap. The headlines are mostly misleading with often minimal content and frustrating to read due to the cookies and if you disable them takes forever to download news content . I realize there is not much to talk about during the International Break however it highlights the laziness and low quality of their so called sports writers. Be interested in any comments.

They get most of their stories off here, anyway.

„I believe in socialism because it seems more humanitarian, rather than every man for himself and 'I'm alright jack' and all those arsehole businessmen with all the loot. I made up my mind from viewing society from that angle. That's where I'm from and there's where I've made my decisions from. That's why I believe in socialism“

In all fairness since Paul Taylor left and started writing for the Athletic it has shown that he is a pretty decent read.

The reporters usually re-hash news that is already out there in the public domain to get views for their advertisers and use "Click Bait" titles to get you there.

Much like sky news, the newsreaders are nothing more than a means to pass from one sponsored weather segment to the next sponsored sports segment.

I can highly recomend the Athletic, there is a yearly subscription but it's worth paying for something that is worth reading with no adverts to get around

And, if the NEP article says 5 or 10 Best- or 5 or 10 Worst - avoid like the plague, lots of on line sites do that as a tease to get you to click thru them one by one exposing you page by page to a multitude of companies targeting your keystroke to advertise their product or get your browsing info. Not sure what this practice is called or know much about it but the NEP is heading in that direction starting by feeding us the Best and Worse scenarios. Not so lazy reporting as it is deceptive to gain revenue from advertisers

There was an article in The Athletic delving into Derby’s 11 point season yesterday. I’m saving it for the weekend.

There was also an article in the Athletic about the loans clubs get so they can receive transfer income upfront instead of waiting for instalments.

They said that VAT has to be paid on the whole amount upfront, and implied it is 20%. Worth bearing in mind if we sell a player for 5m that we only get to keep 4m, if true.

No wonder players often move on frees...

All of that clickbait shite aside, the worst aspect of the NP's online content in my opinion is how they create 'articles' based on the often incoherent, deluded Twitter ramblings of two or three so-called Forest 'fans'.

I used to work in newspapers myself and, like many former journos, I'm saddened by the decline in standards in local reporting. The problems you see on the Post website - including, but not limited to, pointless 'top ten' articles, misleading headlines and a wonky sense of news values that sees fluff like weight-loss stories promoted to the top of the page - are not limited to that news organisation.

What we have to remember, though, is that local newsrooms have never been so badly resourced, lacking reporters on the ground and decent sub-editors to shape the copy and turn in enticing but realistic headlines. The reason why is that not many of us buy newspapers these days and fewer still, it seems, are willing to pay a subscription fee. Add that to the fact that many web viewers use ad-blockers, which of course damages advertising revenues, and perhaps you can see why local news ain't what it was. We get what we are collectively prepared to pay for, and that isn't much at all.

They were much better at writing match reports in the 1800s,that's for sure.

I believe it went something like this...

The Garibaldi Reds were ultimately triumphant in their encounter with Small Heath, after an epic drama that recalled the deathless prose of Homer.

There was an early moment of trepidation for the Foresters when Small Heath’s centre-forward Simpkins charged custodian Daft into the goal, but the goalkeeper belied his name as he had already released the ball, and the forward’s trouble was all in vain.

Little by little, the men of Sherwood increased their footing in the contest, mounting several promising incursions towards their opponents’ goal...(cont’d p 94)

It’s a bit like BBC News gauging country’s political landscape by interviewing a couple of people spitting feathers on a market stall in Stoke.

I read the Athletic. I'm a big fan. I know there is a subscription fee, but it's not expensive, and it is a huge relief not to have pop ups, loading problems, and click bait stories. The Athletic layout is easy to negotiate, and as Shakey says, Paul Taylor's articles are of a good standard. He even gets scoops these days. He was the first to reveal that Appiah was going to Almeria for 8m.

It only takes a second to score a goal.

The significant difference being that the BBC doesn't base it's 6-O'Clock News headline on those comments. Those gobshites in Stoke will routinely feature in a vox pop piece that balances opinions on both sides of the (usually Brexit) argument to fulfill the BBC's impartiality obligation.

According to the Post, those idiots on Twitter speak for the entire Forest fanbase.

I don't know if the NEP is an independent regional newspaper, or one that is owned by a big group.
I rather think it is owned by Northcliffe (part of the Daily Mail Group)and as such is subject to the Daily Mail approach to online newspapers.
All DM titles, local, regional and national have a common approach to online: every single page is a click-bait site which uses deliberately misleading and provocative "headlines", often with some salacious implication (see her norks here!) or such like.
Anyone with any sense avoids these sort of sites like the plague.
Forget the history of the Nottingham Evening Post, and the T Bailey-Forman years.
It is no more a news outlet than Pornhub, it just has less explicit content (so I am informed about both, both of which I avoid).

PornHub probably has more accurate information about Forest than the Evening Post.

It’s owned by Reach PLC, they also own many other regional rags, e.g. Manchester Evening News, Leicester Mercury, and also nationals Daily Mirror, Daily Star, Daily Express, Daily Record... and their Sunday equivalents. Oh, and every waiting rooms favourite - OK Magazine!
