We’ve got a new Brice to sing about these days.

We made several efforts to obtain a work permit for Brad Friedel who had enjoyed a successful trial at the CG, only to be thwarted each time by the Home Office.

The lad, disappointedly, went back to continue his career in the USA only to be offered another trial at Liverpool a short time after returning.

It goes without saying that after impressing at Anfield a work permit was immediately granted.

I‘m glad you posted this Otis. I recalled Forest were after an American goalie, but for the life of me I couldn’t remember if it was Brad Friedel, Kasey Keller or Tim Howard!

I remember this one - would have been the Neil Webb replacement. Would probably have been a very good one too, looking at how he did at Leeds (an upgrade even?).

But maybe we'd not have seen Garry Parker as a centre mid, maybe we'd not have signed Bohinen, etc etc. Miss out on one thing and others things follow instead.

Others that Clough showed interest in:
Neeskens was mentioned which I didn't know but maybe Cruyff too in the 80s?

Laurent Blanc - at the time he'd have been partnering Des Walker - that seems a pretty good partnership to me!

    Alan Shearer

    Matt Le Tissier

One that were rumoured to be targets in the summer of 1995:
Dennis Bergkamp (I don't think it got to the Baggio stage, but maybe he'd even have been better suited to playing alongside Roy, and Baggio's form wasn't great in 95/96 either)

Mark Draper (as good as Bart-Williams turned out to be, I think Draper would have been a better signing at the time, alongside Bohinen as a kind of more progressive Phillips, or if/when necessary as Bohinen's replacement)

I didn't know about this one though!

I guess he meant Webb was just as good, or Parker if later! Or he'd just signed Sheridan and thought he was the Irish Valderrama?

I remember being heavily linked to Philip Cocu during the mid-90s.

Great to now see him failing down the road all these years later.

Ones that Pearce was interested in, that might have helped the promotion bid:

    Callum Wilson

    and....Albert Adomah!

Ones that were rumoured to be targets last year and might have helped a promotion bid too:

    Podence

    Vukuvic

Random recollection of Bassett being interested in: Roar Strand.

Yes Phil, we did. I'd forgotten that one. IIRC it was a deal that collapsed at the last minute.

There were a couple of others who Cloughie was keen to bring to Forest during his early days but, for whatever reason, couldn't complete - Tommy Booth from Manchester City, Arnold Sidebottom (Ryan's dad) from Manchester United and Mick Bates from Leeds.

    Tommy Gaynor.

Fondest memories at Forest stood in the Trent end watching players like Tommy leave everything out there.

Mind you, if we ever get into the Prom-iership, combine these 'dead air time' breaks with team sheet meltdowns on any given night of the ruddy week and, forum-wise, we'll look back on these as "those halcyon days".

Huckerby & Harewood - that 3rd goal - shame they've edited it badly it was straight from the kick off, went straight through the entire Gills team and scored.

    Should definitely have signed him.

Weren't we heavily linked with Edgar Davids one summer in the Frank Clark reign? Or did I confuse reality with Premier Manager?

I have us linked in my head to Steve Claridge and Kevin Philips when they were both in the 30s but still scoring.

I think we're one of only a handful of clubs in the EFL that he didn't play for

Pick the mic up, you missed Darren Moore, the worst defender to grace a premier league pitch

I thought that honour belonged to Titus Bramble (who we were also linked with at one point)

We had Mikkel Beck on loan mate. He was fucking wank as expected.

    Still better than Shipperley though.

Didn’t we try to sign Joey Beauchamp after we got promoted in 98?

He’d have only got homesick anyway but I remember him being a quality player.
