Definitely Jason Lee. He wasn't great, but not nearly as bad as some people made out.

If Jason Lee wasn't great what does that say about the players of the past twenty years.

I liked him, but no way should he be in the worst category. He was a decent Premier League player.

I wish we had a player of his standard now.

It only takes a second to score a goal.

This thread probably ought to be renamed "most misundertood player"

Lee was a good target man & bustler. Trouble is he wasn't a clinical finisher, and he had Stan to contrast himself against.

I'd put Ian Wallace in that category too. He wasn't a bad player but because he cost the same as Francis the expectation was through the roof. He was never going to be as good as Francis, no one was, but it didn't stop the comparison.

Franz Carr, had his moments, but never lived up to the initial Cloughie expectations.

As far as "most misunderstood" players go, two I'd chuck in would be Scott Gemmill & Lewis McGugan.

Scott gelled the team very nicely, and folk didn't like him coz they wanted a box-to-box fancy dan.

Lewis was a matchwinner, game-changer & set-peice man who folk expected to work hard & tackle back for 90min. Yeah he was probably a better bench option than a first team mainstay, but that said if you'd 3-4 folk who could graft alongside him in midfield you could carry that.

This is a really hard question to answer, but here goes:
    Alex Ingram!
He was all of 5 feet 9 inches tall and on joining Forest he was quoted in an interview by the then Nottingham Evening Post as declaring "I chose to join Nottingham Forest because they have good wingers who can cross the ball and I am good in the air".
28 games and 3 goals later (all scored with his feet and from close range) he left.
He was always a happy smiling chap, but I never saw him get his head to a cross ever.
Infact I reckon when he leaped for the cross he managed to acieve a height, slightly less than his own!
A great comedy watch, but we probably had better strikers in my Sunday morning pub team!

I always thought with Lewis that he would have benefited from a rule change to allow specialist temporary substitutions (as I think they have in American Football- allowing specialist goal kickers on at appropriate times).
Then Lewis could sit on the bench eating Mars Bars, then dashing on to take every free-kick within his goal-scoring range, and then dashing off after belting said free-kick into the top corner.
And I use the term "dashing" with my tongue in my cheek.
I will never forget that incredible pass he made to Simon Cox v Birmingham City.
He hit it from the half-way line far out on the right, placing it on the foot of Cox in the Brum penalty box, for Cox to volley home.
We all thought McGugan was a God, and that Simon Cox was a goal-scoring genius.
Sadly, neither beliefs were quite true.

    That's a cracking finish too.

Probably the best Forest goal of the last ten years. I quite liked Cox too. We did have Massive Cox Fan on here.

    He is still here!

And as for the best Forest goal; my vote goes to Lewis McGugan against Ipswich (yes, that one).

Hildeberto Pereira for me although not sure he counts as he wasn't a bad player by any stretch of the imagination. He was an absolute wizard when running at players.

I'd forgotten all about that. Pure fucking magic.

And folk said SOD couldn't inspire players

Whilst there they set to work on his technique & skills, for example, before leaping they taught him to bend his legs for extra spring, but he didn't get it quite right, he bent the knees to far, whilst, for some reason tucking his head down, which lead to little frog jumps where his head was lower than his normal standing height, but he would not believe my brother & I when we tried to explain it to him, even after trying to prove it to him with an old cane as a measure.

He also picked up a ball-less Cruyff turn. The turn part he perfected, the retention of the ball he did not, so he'd fool you, & go passed you every time, but because he'd left the ball behind you'd just gain possession & use your head start to run towards his goal.

Before he went off on his course my brother was jealous as jealous can be, but after he'd come back my brother was quite glad our parents were poor.
We also had a player back in the late 1960s who did the leaping lower than his own height thing - Barry Lyons.
Barry was a small (5ft 7in) right winger who was decent with the ball on the ground and at his feet, but he was the worst "jumper" than any other player I can remember.
But, as I say, he was a decent player and did well for us.
    He had his own chant:
    Barry Lyons, Superstar!
Give him the ball and he will score!
(to the tune of Jesus Christ Superstar, naturally).

I think Hefele, the popular opinion is that he's not good enough but my god he's entertaining.

Paul Evans. We signed him for about £30,000 when we were complete shit. He seemed like he tried and he got 'stuck in'. I remember a game towards the end of the season when we were in trouble and losing, he stood out as when the rest went hiding, he wanted the ball constantly (even though he was shit). He was the only one being vocal and encouraging as well.
There's still a picture of him on my mums fridge next to one of Julian Bennet haha

    I loved Gareth Taylor.

His saving grace was that he was a shit player in a shittier squad but I didn’t care, I adored him.

I think 'odd' is a good thing. Oddness shows originality, uniqueness and a desire to be different from the masses. Oddness is, maybe, only deemed 'odd' by the majority who are considered less odd but only by their own blinkered observations and understanding. Oddness should never be criticised but be encouraged to nurture, develop individualism and to explore the mind rather than conform to expectation and 'normality'. Many of the world's greatest works of art and prose were born from those minds many considered to be 'odd'.
