Default Matchday 6 - Nottingham Forest vs Preston North End

MATCHDAY 6 - NOTTINGHAM FOREST vs PRESTON NORTH END

Preston have had a positive start to the Championship season under Alex Neil, winning 3 of their 5 games albeit against opposition you'd expect to see in the lower end of the table; a 1-0 loss to Milwall away on the first day of the season looks to have been put firmly behind them. Forest, however, have had a much tougher start to the 19/20 season and have taken 4 points off 3 teams you'd expect to see battling at the top of the table come the end of the season. A convincing 2-1 win away at Fulham on the weekend is probably the best result of Forest's campaign so far.

Both Preston and Forest have difficult cup ties midweek, with Preston hosting Hull at Deepdale and Forest.. well, you know who Forest have got.

They're in fine fettle but they'll sure need to be to come away with any points from the CG in August.

They've no chance. Another 3 points for the famous club.

Another tough one, aren’t they all?

Looking at their weaknesses we should do well.

Going for 2-1 to the Mighty Reds.

The underrated shithouses of the league are Preston. Seriously tough game as we have seen in their last 2 visits here. We always get bullied by them.

With the added physicality in the middle, going to be interesting how we play because their midfield really is very good.

Tricky fixture this one. Decent side who have had a decent start to the season.

If we can avoid injuries or tiring ourselves out too much in the midweek cup game then I reckon we'll edge this one. Preston will undoubtedly rest players for their midweek cup game, so putting too much effort into the Derby cup could come back to haunt us here.

They have frequently bullied us in recent years. They won’t find it as easy this time.

Would be good to go into the international break with another home win and in the top six on current form.

It only takes a second to score a goal.

They are always a better team than anyone expects because their players are all so low-profile. They’ve got some good footballers though and Alex Neil is a very good manager.

Pleased to see that one of their weaknesses may be aerial duels and set-pieces. I fancy us to score from a corner. For this reason I hope Silva starts, because his corners are really dangerous.

    1-0 Forest (Dawson)

Great team at home, yet to win away in the league this season though.

Expect us to not lose, wouldn't be unhappy with a point but we really should be winning these games if promotion is on.

If Dawson, Lolley, Grabban and Sow play I fancy our chances against anybody. Even more so when Carvs comes back.

Preston, to me, are a curious nothing team. They rarely seem to hit the headlines or do anything of interest. They are just there.

Having said that, they can play football so we must respect them.

Well, that's got that out of the way; a good win for the reds I fancy.

This is bigger than the Derby game, IMO.

    I'll elaborate if challenged.

This will be tough. They're a physical strong side, move the ball well and have speed in behind.

Our biggest challenge is going to be defending against the speed, because it means we play high and risk getting caught out, or deep to stop the long pass over, but then concede the strikers dropping into the space. That's how Charlton had us. Taylor and Leko constantly dropping off to pick the ball up and Dawson/Worrall can't keep tabs with that speed. So they pretty much had an 5 man midfield and easy way to earn possession in our half.

If we can prevent that, we'll be flying.

Interestingly, the two teams we've beat thus far don't present as much of a threat with their striker in behind Brum - Jutkewicz (however it's spelt) and Fulham - Mitrovic.

Does Ameobi get a secondary assist for the challenge that lead to the Grabban second vs Fulham? Or is that his first assist?

I remember this one last season, it was the beginning of the end for AK. We had that cracking 5-5 at Villa, then we beat Ipswich at home. We were on a great unbeaten run and had recently beated Sheff Utd at home too.

We then lost 1-0 at home to Preston which triggered a crap run of results. Lost at home to QPR, threw it away at Norwich, lost at Millwall. Shit XMas all round.

Even more reason to rest the better players v Derby. Let's not do a Forest this season, let's keep the momentum going into the international break. We've a great chance of being in the top 6 with a win.

First assist of the season for him.

A big part of the hope that we don't repeat that this year, is that we haven't a spoiled snob of a manager throwing his toys out the pram coz we only gave him 25m to spend.

Toughest test of the season thus far given the weight of expectation this fixture will carry.

Some teams just seem to have the evil-eye over other teams.
Forest had it over ManUre in the 60s, and over Liverpool in the late 70s.
Preston seem to have it over us at the moment.
We haven't done well against them for a few seasons.
Maybe this is the season we break that hoodoo.
    Predicting a draw though.

Preston are dark horses for me this season.
Fancy them to upset a few.
As tough a test as any this one, as previous experience shows.
Draw wont be a bad result but on our day . . . .
