We need two right backs competing for the spot. It isnt either/or.

It only takes a second to score a goal.

I don't see what the problem is here. Jenkinson is a decent pedigree right back who has been out for a while and has still to find full fitness, we wouldn't have got a sniff at him if their wasn't a flaw. His class will show as the season goes on.

Cash has done more than reasonably well for a player adapting to a new position and I've never been his biggest fan. We will see him get better and better too thanks to having a good coach who is willing to develop him. He will become a better RB than he ever will as a winger.

Jenks looks unfit not crap. If in a few months he's not improved then fair enough, but as it stands he's still better than us having no backup for Cash after Darikwas injury.

Indeed - I'd normally say that it's too early to judge any of the new arrivals accurately, they are all, in one way or another either - adapting to new surroundings/a different country/a different style/new team mates and getting back to fitness/first team sharpness etc...and need time. But we all know nobody gets time in football anymore.

He's just getting back into regular first team football so he's going to need a bit of time to get fully accustomed

Jenkinsons operated consistently at a level above us.

    This ^^

I think Jenkinson will turn out to be a good signing.

He needs a chance to get back into the swing of things before anyone can draw any credible conclusions.

Evidently, enough to make a definitively negative judgement according to some.

Cash will improve but in his actual position in midfield. Hes not a right back and was torn to pieces against WBA. I dont think hes played better either. As an attacking outlet he was definitely better but defensively he was worse. He was a stop gap solution in the position - nothing more. Now he can be a useful option with his drive and energy in midfield. Something weve lacked.

Jenkinson is an actual right back who has spent his career specialising in the position. Defences tend to perform better when you put round pegs in round holes. Hes not fully fit yet already hes come in and done a decent job. Its a positive sign and as he continues to get fit he will get better and better.

Nothing more than a theory on my part, so I'm prepared for it to be shot down, but I'm not entirely convinced that SL dropped Robbo because he simply preferred Ribiero at left-back for yesterday's game.

Being a coach who clearly puts a lot of trust in his players, and in the knowledge that Jenkinson could be unavailable for possibly the best part of another hectic period, I think he may have wanted YR to get more football under his belt just in case Cash incurs injury or begins to struggle at right-back, knowing that he could move across the pitch should that need arise.

Highly plausible Otis. I think "dropped" is an overused word. A coach like SL likes to rotate and pick players based partly on the opposition.

Also, Paul Taylor mentioned that Figs had been playing at right back during training this week.

I didn't know that Ravi, which probably suggests that he will be the back-up at right-back rather than Ribiero.

I completely agree with you that some people make too much of an issue about Lamouchi making the most of his squad.

It would be useful if Figs could cover for right back as well as centre back from the bench. It gives us more options.

BBC says Jenkinson is a long term injury, so what actually happened to him?
