Default Nottingham Forest's Greatest Ever Goals (the longlist thread)

I couldn't find a 'greatest ever Forest goal' thread with enough goals in it. European Cup Final winning goals are likely to win, but I'm interested in a longer list.

Maybe once we have a real long list we can then somehow put it to a poll and come up a top 50 as voted for by LTLF.

To get it started all goals in major finals go in automatically:

    Capes 1 (n) v Derby FAC 1898
    Capes 2 (n) v Derby FAC 1898
    McPherson (n) v Derby FAC 1898
    Dwight v Luton (n) FAC 59
    Wilson v Luton (n) FAC 59
    Robertson (p) v Liverpool (n) LC 78
    Birtles 1 v Southampton (n) LC 79
    Birtles 2 v Southampton (n) LC 79
    Woodcock v Southampton (n) LC 79
    Francis v Malmo (n) EC 79
    George v Barcelona (h) ESC 79
    Burns v Barcelona (a) ESC 79
    Robertson v Hamburg (n) EC 80
    Bowyer 1 v Valencia (h) ESC 80
    Bowyer 2 v Valencia (h) ESC 80
    Clough 1 (p) v Luton (n) LC 89
    Webb v Luton (n) LC 89
    Clough 2 v Luton (n) LC 89
    Jemson v Oldham (n) LC 90
    Pearce v Tottenham (n) 91 FAC

I’ll put these important goals in as well:

    Storey-Moore 3 v Everton (h) FAC 67
    Bowyer v Cologne (a) 79 EC
    Birtles v Liverpool (h) 78 EC
    Barrett v Liverpool (h) 78 EC
    O’Neill 2 v Ipswich (n) 78 CS
    Robertson v Ipswich (n) 78 CS
    Francis v Ajax (h) 79 EC
    Robertson (p) v Ajax (h) 79 EC
    Hodge v Celtic (a) UC 84
    Walsh v Celtic (a) UC 84
    Rice v Arsenal (a) FAC 88
    Parker v Bristol City (a) LC 89
    Parker 2 v Everton (n) SC 89
    Parker v Man United (a) FAC 89
    Pearce v Coventry (h) LC 90
    Keane v Tottenham (a) LC 92
    Gemmill 1 v Southampton (n) ZDSC 92

Off the top of my head, here's a few good ones:

    Gaynor v Huddersfield (a) LC 89
    Pearce v Man United (a) 90
    Crosby v Man City (h) 90
    Clough v Newcastle (a) FAC 91
    Hodge v Southampton (a) FAC 91
    Walker v Luton (h) 92
    Charles (og) v Derby (a) 93
    Pearce v Peterborough (a) 94
    Collymore v Peterbrough (a) 94
    Collymore v Man United (a) 94
    Bohinen v Tottenham (a) 94
    Bohinen v Sheffield Wednesday (a) 95
    Roy v Malmo (h) UC 96
    Bart-Williams v Reading (h) 98
    Johnson v Sheffield United (h) PO 03
    Tyson v Man City (a) FAC 09
    Bennett v Yeovil (h) 08
    Garner v Southampton (a) 08
    Majewski v West Brom (a) 10
    Cohen v West Brom (a) 10

I think that's 57 to start it off.

#All games are league games unless stated: EC = European Cup, UC = UEFA Cup, ESC = European Super Cup, FAC = FA Cup, LC = League Cup, SC = Simod Cup, ZDSC = Zenith Data Systems Cup, POSF = Play-Offs

Don't worry about repeating ones that are already in, I'll sort that out at the end.

We need way more Forest goals. Ok, list them....

McGugans Freekick against Ipswich should be in there.

Starting with the Gemmill family, I think these can go in:
    Archie vs Arsenal (h) 77-78
    Scot vs Arsenal (h) 91-92
Scot vs Leicester (h) 93-94 (maybe both - one for the move moreso, and the other for the finish)

Going back to my early days:
Davenport vs PSV (a) 83-84 - don't remember it but seen it on Youtube
Metgod vs Man Utd (h) 84-85 (also the one at home to West Ham, and maybe the home goal vs Tottenham from 86-87; all free-kicks)

I'll leave it at that for now. Roy vs Ipswich (a) was a nice start to 94-95 though so that can be mentioned before I force myself to stop! I'd like quite a few team move goals in if people can remember good ones myself (you've got Rice, Webb and Parker already).

There can be no wrong for this list. If it's one of your favourites, it can go in.

Pearce v Man United (A) 90 has to be up there for the sheer celebration it generated in the stadium after the abuse they'd been giving him.

However Francis v Malmo (n) EC 79 is the definitive answer to end this thread. The goal that made Nottingham Forest famous worldwide.

Great goals to start us off. I'll nominate

    Steve Stone v Pompey 1993
    Lars Bohinen v Wimbledon 1994
    Keith Foy v Tranmere 2000
    Hjelde v Preston 2001
    Marlon H v Palace 2003
Reidy v West Ham (away) 2003 (?) bet there are plenty of other Reidy goals worth considering
Marlon K v West Ham 2004 (grudgingly, wish that goal had been scored by someone else)

Was going to mention Stone vs Portsmouth in my next batch!
I'd say the Woan goal in that Wimbledon game can go in too (although now we've mentioned two goals that aren't the Collymore one!) - nice move.

Edward Sheringham against Liverpool at the start of the Premier League season (and Mr. Clough's last season).

Ian Woan, he scored some cracking goals. I'll add in

    v Newcastle (h) 1996
    v Newcastle (a) 1997 both goals

Was it Woan who scored the winner against Liverpool, just before the FA Cup Final in 1991, the game was on TV? Great goal whoever scored it.

Westley Morgan's absolute belter against Notts County in the League Cup?

    Yes. In it goes.

The Scot Gemmill goal v Arsenal that Kjetil posted as well. Beautiful goal.

Wes v Notts? Glad those bohinen chips are in there. Beautiful.

And vs Palace in a cup game in 91-92 (left foot drive).

Barrett vs Liverpool - European Cup 78-79.
Francis away in Berlin 79-80 (the turn and shot from O'Neill's pass)
Robertson vs Man Utd (a) 77-78

    If there was room:
Neil Webb vs Liverpool 87-88 (from Crosby pass) and/or vs Southampton 92-93 (curler)
Bohinen vs Tottenham (h) could go in too from 94-95
Woan vs Liverpool (h) - volley from was it 90-91?
One or more Kingsley Black goals from Wimbledon (h) 91-92, QPR (h) 94-95, Tottenham (h) 92-93, Leeds (a) 92-93, Southend (h) 93-94, ZDS goal which could go in with Gemmill's 2nd if room for non-major final goals.
Maybe one or more from the win at Chelsea in 86-87, and ditto from Norwich (a) 90-91
    Jemson chip (h) Southampton 89-90(?)

Pearce and Collymore videos on the Forest Youtube channel could be useful. Two rarer Pearce ones to consider - home vs Ipswich in his first season I think, home vs Oldham in 91-92 from a Gemmill chip. Another for Collymore - Bristol City (a) 93-94.

Jermaine Jenas's first goal was pretty good IIRC.
Woan vs Newcastle in the cup?

I'll stop again but I'll come back with any more ideas that come to mind.

Loads of room. When we've run out of ideas I'll whack them all in an excel sheet, remove the duplicates and post the list. Then we can start narrowing it down. There has to be at least a minimum of 300 first though. That's only two a year after all.

To be fair I think DanR mentioned it on my World Cup goals thread - but I hadn't seen that so that's another with two votes.

100 goals could soon seem not many! But thinking of recent ones maybe Paterson vs Blackburn or West Ham last season.

Woodcock away at Man Utd (whichever goal is deemed best - probably the first) would be a good addition too from 77-78.

Zico volley v Coventry away. 1989ish. Rice didn't score many but when he did they were memorable

David Phiilips should be involved so his goal at Bolton in 93-94 or Collymore's diving header vs Notts County from the same season (from a Phillips cross)?

Viv Anderson vs AEK Athens 78-79 should be in too.
