I don't enjoy the Derby fixture myself, the games are rarely classics, but I sure as hell don't want them to remain above us and better placed (on and off the pitch) for the foreseeable future. Even more mad that people would rather Derby be successful than Liverpool (a team whose success would have no affect on us bar an easily avoidable media wankfest).

I just don't see it like you do. Why will they be light years ahead of us?

How many years were Stoke and Sunderland in the Prem and where are they now?

It means nothing if they go up to me because they won't win anything. What are they going to brag about, getting a draw at Bournemouth?
Honestly, I don't envy any team in the Premiership that just exist to make the numbers up. I appreciate it's a lot of football supporters wet dream but it isn't mine.

Sunderland have Lee Cattermole and Aiden McGeady still there and Grant Leadbitter. Billy wanted Leadbitter.

Charlton have Jonny Williams and another man The KING wanted in Darren Pratley.

Pompey have Omar Bogle up front.

Doncaster have Coppinger still playing at 38.

The Stags have Tyler Walker and Tranmere have the goal-machine that is Ishmael Miller.

Premier League football (no guarantee that they will come straight back down) and the money they would get could be a real game changer for them. Being in the top flight and above us is certainly a lot more to brag about than we have. It's been rubbish finishing below them and constantly losing to them over the last six years, and I'd much rather that six years didn't turn into a decade or more (which it could and most likely would if they went up).

I'm not one of those people who think that the Premier League is the be all and end all of football by any means, but I sure as hell don't want to spend the next who knows how many years in the shadows of our arch rivals. As a Forest fan, I always want us to be better than Derby and seeing them be more successful than us can never in any way be anything else than a negative thing for me.

Derby effectively won their play off quarter final today. They haven't looked good enough since Christmas to win three big games on the bounce.

Leeds also outclassed them twice this season, and on form would beat them again. They might be broken for the season though, and Derby could put them out of their misery.

West Brom have looked like they should be better than they are most of the season. Sacked Moore and didn't get any more consistent. Could go up, but would have to hit a purple patch from nowhere now. Beaten by Derby twice this season. Lost to them in their last play off final in 2007. We need them to stand aside for the greater good and get beaten by Villa really.

Villa have been the best of these teams in 2019 and start favourites. They've also outclassed Derby twice this season. Picked a bad time to stop winning though.

Imagine the hyperbole before Lampard v Terry live on Sky Sports in the '200 million pound game' or whatever they call it for a place in the Premier League.

I get what you're saying but I just don't see it like that. Being premiership whipping boys with more money to spunk on more overpaid players isn't successful in my opinion.

Out of interest, does anyone feel like we are in Leicester City's shadow?
I don't, they rarely even get mentioned these days and as much as people brush it off we did have a rivalry with them for a long time.

I work with a few Chelsea and Arsenal fans and they still say Forest have the feel of a bigger club than Leicester

I'm not really one of those who cares much about Leicester (and many of our fans feel the same way), but for those Forest fans that do I am sure they haven't enjoyed the last few years. I am sure any Forest fan living in or around Leicestershire definitely feels that we are in their shadow.

Of course, if we measure success as purely winning trophies then no, neither Forest, Derby or anyone else outside of the top 6 of the Premier League are likely to do that any time soon.

However, as rivals we also want to get one over each other. Finishing below Derby and (until recently) losing to them regularly means that they are currently more successful than us and have bragging rights over us, and Premier League football and money would most likely increase the gap between the two clubs.

We are in Leicester's shadow a bit currently, yeah. I'd rather that wasn't the case. I grew up on the Leicestershire border.

We are Leicester's bitches. They even took our donkey centre back and turned him into a Premier League winning captain. They'll probably hand him back now he's back to Yeovil backpass level.

They currently have better facilities (for now), been in the top flight more often, played in Europe and won more trophies than Forest in the last few decades. We are absolutely in their shadow, they are lightyears ahead of Forest currently and that is unlikely to change any time soon even if we do go up.

    Fair enough mate.

Maybe I've just grown out of it a bit. I've got plenty of Derby friends of the same age and we all know 'bragging rights' is just a bit of banter, until either club is truly successful there isn't much between us.

Will know when Forest aren't in their shadow any more, because Harry will be back. And wellerfox. And any other Leicester fan that used to be bothered enough about Forest to post regularly on here. They've forgotten about us.

Where's the Demise of Leicester City thread? Why doesn't anyone mention them ever? We don't even sing the ONE song with their name in it anymore. Basically no one cares, so how can we be in their shadow?

They'll fail if they go up Barry. Same difference.

Well no club outside the top 6 is likely to be truly successful (bar the odd one-off like Leicester once in a blue moon), so the fixtures between us and league positions are really the only metric to measure who is better of the two realistically.

Most Derby fans I know revel in the fact that they consistently finish above and beat us, and a lot of our fans were ecstatic that we beat them recently. I'd say its still hugely important to most Forest and Derby fans, and I am sure some of the people saying that they don't care if Derby go up probably would care if it becomes a reality and we don't follow them soon afterwards.

There isn't much of a demise at Leicester really, is there? Bar a brief stint in League One, I am sure fans of most clubs in the country would have loved the success they have had in the last couple of decades (2 League Cups, Premier League Title, European football and a decent chunk of time in the top flight).

Because most of the county live north of the city, I suppose. There isn't much of South Notts.

I never really knew any Derby fans. I just learned that I was supposed to dislike them. Leicester fans genuinely annoyed me when they reached the PL under O'Neill.

    That exactly.

I said on here four years ago in the Derby thread that neither us or them will be a major force in English (forget European) football ever again.
So if Derby want to brag about winning nothing being in a league higher for a few years that's fine with me.

Let’s be honest, stab in the right nut or stab in the left ball. So, what’s the less of the evils?

WBA ( diving fucker, that we’d be prepared to forgive. But a parachute team, so we’re reluctant to support them ). ....Comes on the Albion !

Villa - (parachute team) but absolutely threw them parachutes around in that first season, gave it the ‘billy big bollocks’ - would love to see them at the ‘FFP’ table with the rest of us.

Leeds - a non parachute team, so a very small part of me thinks ‘come on.’ Then I think ‘it’s Leeds’

derby -a non parachute team.............come on WBA, you can do it !!!

Fair enough, each to their own. While I can understand feeling a bit fed up of the Derby fixture and being bored of the rivalry, I still find some people wanting them to get promoted rather odd though.

Yeah I agree. I said I didn't care if they did, not that I wanted them to get promoted. I'd rather they got relegated.
