Default Matchday 38: Ipswich Town vs Nottingham Forest

    Ipswich Town vs Nottingham Forest
    Saturday 16th March
    Portman Road
    KO. 3pm

Despite presiding over a losing matchday thread as we need some consistency I've decided to hell with convention and continued on! (Mods if this is an affront to the forum gods please feel free to delete).

So, two of the Championship's longest-serving teams meet as 24th-placed Ipswich Town (W3, D14, L20) look to dash tenth-placed Forest's (W13, D14, L10) playoff hopes, whilst also avoiding a third head-to head loss on the bounce.

A late survival challenge looks unlikely, but Ipswich have earned a league-high nine draws at home this season, including seven 1-1 stalemates - four of which came against the current top six.

Having collected five points from their last six games, the Tractor Boys have earned three points fewer than Forest did over the same period. But with Ipswich losing just once in six previous head-to-heads here, the Portman Road faithful will be hopeful Paul Lambert can get one over his Old Firm boss Martin O'Neill.

Winless in ten competitive away games (D5, L5), Forest have also scored just two goals across their last seven road trips - notably only one of those seven produced over 2.5 total goals. However, the Reds have failed to find the net in just two of their last 14 journeys here (in all competitions).

With 38 wins, Forest lead the overall head-tohead record (W38, D18, L22); Ipswich's Paul Lambert has one career loss against Forest (W3, D3, L1), while O'Neill travels here for the first time - but who will tip the even managerial record (W1, L1 each)?

    Players to watch:
Five-goal Gwion Edwards grabbed a second-half strike in Ipswich’s last Championship home match. Meanwhile eight-goal Joe Lolley scored the 95th-minute winner in Forest's 2-1 home victory over Ipswich last season.

    Form:

    Styles of Play:

    Did You Know?

    • Portman Road was the first stadium to be converted to all-seater in England after the Hillsborough disaster and subsequent Taylor report. However the first ever English stadium to go all-seater was the former Coventry City ground Highfield Road which was converted to all seater in 1981.
    • Ipswich have competed in all three European club competitions – The European Cup, UEFA Cup & Cup Winners’ Cup, and interestingly have never lost a European tie on home soil, defeating Real Madrid, AC Milan, Inter Milan, Lazio and Barcelona amongst others.
    • Both Forest and Ipswich's current club badges were decided as part of competitions. In Forest's case the winning design was created by David Lewis, a graphic artist, and first used in 1974. Ipswich's was created by John Gammage, a former Postmaster and Treasurer of the Supporters Club, and has been in use since 1972.

Harvey breaks the system, time is warped, an expected unexpected defeated is nowhere to be seen, Franco sees his first victory in a long time, and we edge another step closer to our bright destiny.

    All in glorious technicolour

From what I can see, Ipswich have only taken the scalp of Wigan & Rotherham all season, we clearly don't belong in that company, so a loss here is inconceivable.

No away wins in 10 dilutes the enthusiasm a bit, but they're doomed, we must win, so we go into this with the upper hand mentally.

Disappointed to see a poll not containing „John Wark“ or „Mick Mills“ options, but there you go.

Forest to win, 0-1, Joe Lolley again proving Forest at the moment have one attacking threat, and he’s it.

In all seriousness, this is about as close as a game can get to a 'routine win' at this level. Not getting three points is completely unthinkable.

We lose, Harvey is sentenced to be dry bummed by Keith then hammered to death by Barry, while Wes's dogs mutilate his genitals.

    Go for it Harvey.

Some of my mates in the pub before I moved were keen Ipswich season ticket holders and I feel sorry that they are in such a precarious position, but this weekend I hope they are put to the sword and Forest record a great morale-boosting victory.

I did one of those Ancestry searches. Discovered my surname originated in Ipswich. Lost interest after that.

Loss. I don't think we've won an away game under MON and Ipswich are showing some signs of not wanting to completely chuck the towel in, so this falls into the category of games we usually crumble in.
