    Default Gordon Banks, RIP

„I believe in socialism because it seems more humanitarian, rather than every man for himself and 'I'm alright jack' and all those arsehole businessmen with all the loot. I made up my mind from viewing society from that angle. That's where I'm from and there's where I've made my decisions from. That's why I believe in socialism“

Gordons not alive! Sad news, as a kid my pals and myself all tried to recreate that save at the foot of the post which was unusual as the usual culprits were ISM, Best, Charlton etc as the ones we would try and copy on the fields near our house. RIP Gordon

    How are the mighty fallen.

The BBC thought fit to place, quite high up in a news bulletin, that some Man U bloke had been appointed manager of Oldham, but I've heard nothing about Gordon Banks leaving us. A shock, especially as all these chaps are my contemporaries, in age if not ability.

A fine player and a lovely bloke.

Achieved legendary status & always came across as a thoroughly decent bloke.

    Sad news.

    RIP Gordon Banks.

As well as winning the World Cup, at club level he also mentored Peter Shilton and so played a part in our most successful period.

RIP Gordon, you were in my opinion the 'greatest goalkeeper of all time'. Another one of my boyhood heroes has moved on.

Actually I was a bit trigger happy there. News bulletins have been leading with Gordon.

One of, if not the, greatest goalie in English history.

Full time, Sir. Well played and thank you.

    Rest in Peace.

By "relegation battle", do you mean 7th, 12th or 14th?

It really pisses me off, big brother not trusting football fans to show proper respect as though they are the fucking arbiters of decency.

He was before my state of awareness but his standing in football's hall of fame is obvious. His departing from us has made me think though - not once have I seen a clip of him in league action or ever heard of any honour he may have won at club level. However, as those who knew him personally say what a fine, caring person he was then that is all that really matters after all is said and done - and for what I applaud him the most.
