I'm still hovering over than Warsaw album, holding back because I'm after a new turntable first.
Trying to sell one of my guitars to fund it, going to get something decent like a Rega Planar or something.

Really like the look of Rega players.

    What guitar are you selling?

The Sheraton. I haven't really used it since that Indie band imploded.

Yeah, I'd become a bit obsessed with vintage turntables and overlooked newer stuff like Rega and Audio Technica.

    Makes sense.

When I move out I really want an old stereo, one of those massive ones made out of separates.

Something like this, just look insanely cool.

I used to have a stack of old Sony separates but each thing eventually broke except for the turntable. That's becoming temperamental though, which is why I want something else.
Only paid about £80 for the lot, back in the days of the Ad-Mag

I've got a Pioneer one like that up in the loft, the turntable died years ago and it is a dodgy single power source set up so not true seperates. Cost over a grand 30 years ago when I first started earning.

Single power source? As in one plug?

You're going to have this simple for me

I remember us having one in a wooden thing with a glass door. Now I look in our living room and wonder how we had the space. We then got something smaller which lasted a couple of years until I got interested in music and I got that one for my birthday. I was only 6 but it blew me away.

Apparently the separates we had went to a bloke up the road. The separates my Nan and Granddad had were given away about 4 years ago. Blows me away. I'll have to get mine from Gumtree.

Servo controlled, some of the Technics stuff is like that. Makes sense, one power plug instead of five, but you need the specific amp to run it all.

All the separates have a two pin plug that goes into the back of the amp. It's only the amp you plug into a socket.
I think you can convert some of them or use a transformer, seems like a load of hassle though.

We wheeled one similar to that to the tip in April out my grandmas house... polished twice a week and only moved once when they changed the living room carpet from the orginal put down in 55 in about 88. My dad doesnt ever recall it ever being played. Infact inside it still had in their orginal packet, the needles.

I think they were made by Ferguson. Not really worth much.

That thing was my introduction to vinyl, my gran would let me put my uncle's records on. 45's of the 1970's; Dreamer - Supertramp, Killer Queen - Queen, Space Oddity - Bowie, I'm Mandy fly me - 10cc...

    That's right.

There's some still knocking about on eBay and that.

A Sanyo Music Centre. And it all folded up together like a briefcase. Why? I don't know.

That was miniaturisation in the 70s, sound quality was dreadful.

It was wasn't it. I remember hearing one in Curry's on Beastmarket Hill and thinking, Christ that's awful. Strange really because some of Sanyo,s stuff was quite good.

I got a new stylus for the old Sony for now. Still undecided what turntable to go for when I upgrade.

I have just upgraded the stuff in my man cave (hate that phrase) to some very mid range kit so my 1970s B&O music centre (which still worked fine but is just too big) may have to take the long walk to the dump or if I lose my nerve it may go into storage.

Ain't it amazing how when we were younger bigger was better. Wharfedale speakers, your B & O stuff. I have a small Audio Pro speaker now made in Scandinavia. The sound is amazing.

OK I will put it in storage at Long Eaton let me know if you fancy it. It has a couple of broken buttoms on the tape deck but everything still works and the cartridge is good.
