Here’s the thing: if Martin O’Neill, one of the most highly respected managers in Britain throughout the last quarter of a century, is unable to command the respect of a number of – let’s face it, woefully underperforming players – then perhaps it's the players who should be shown the exit door?

Martin O’Neill earn their respect? The irony drips from those words.

Let's be honest, if MON had made the exact same decisions yesterdya he'd have been hammered for:

    Cash at RB,
    Worrall at CB,
    Watson in midfield,
    not starting Pants,
    not starting Milo,
    taking off Lolley,
playing Sammy Shit-Good as a forward.

Mouch gets away with it because folk want to believe in him.

Which is fine and the right thing to do. I just can't understand why the same folk wouldn't extend that to MON.

Lolley was out of sorts, Cash was there because we don't have a replacement right back. Worrall was ok, Muric had a dodgy game but the second was a fluke and prob would have beaten most keepers.

But yeah, I agree, everything changes but everything stays the same.

Because it was Lamouci's first game? MON lost his first game but wasn't particularly hammered for it. I think you are equating the criticism MON received a few games in when it had become apparent what his tactics were, with the first game of a new manager who did play his best starting XI and also threw on 3 attacking subs before the end.

I totally agree, I just wrote the performance was very mon. To play Cash, Worrall, Dawson, Robinson and Watson is a very O'Neil thing to do.

As soon as I saw the team I knew we were in trouble. Most managers would lose with the team we had out yesterday. Mouth shouldn't get away with it but because he is foreign he will. I don't like Mon either before anyone tries to say I do.

Technically mate Mouch has been here way longer than MON, and had way longer to assess the squad & actually played some friendly games with them too.

But here's some comments from after MON's first game after he'd been here a handful of days.......

Negatives. If MON is unable and can’t turn this around in 8 games then he’s a MacLeish

Bloody hell Alf - do you have all this saved? Just take a break mate.

Did everybody go to the friendlies? No. For a lot of people yesterday was the first game they've seen. Also the league is different. You yourself should know as someone who repeatedly claims that MON shouldn't have been expected to have any clue what to expect from the Championship being as he hasn't managed in it in years.

I am not going to trawl through the threads looking for criticisms of the new manager because quite frankly I'd much rather watch The Ashes. As I said above, Lamouci pretty much picked his best starting Xi yesterday so I am not sure what criticism you are determined to unearth. Why would people criticise Cash at RB, when he was the only experienced option available? Who else was he going to play - nobody? Same with Worral, he's a decent CB and just as good as any of the other alternatives. Lamouci didn't leave out his best players or try to force the squad to adopt a completely defensive style that it wasn't equipped for. We were just beaten by a much better team and perhaps people could just recognise that?

So you're upset because in your opinion there hasn't been enough criticism of Lamouchi?

If we keep losing games I'm sure you'll get your wish.

That still wasn't as bad as the wank O'Neill served up.

No where near. and I don't care about the 3 games that meant absolutely fuck all after he'd already derailed any hopes we had with his abject management.

That said. He goes into the same box as all the other. Ex-manager, failure.

Lamouchi's time is a new opportunity. So any comparisons are futile, cos the last manager means fuck all to what is happening right now.

I know aspergers alf can't let anything go, in his genes. But I don't give a fuck about any ex managers. Here and now is what matters.

No, I'm glad there has been a far less agressive approach to Mouch than MON, and and would like it to stay that way.

    "Aspergers Alf"

"Congratluations, you have Alf-spergers syndrome" I might change my name to that once Semedo goes back.

Would you like some lube for that butthurt?

I’m sorry but yesterday was on par with mon. It was absolutely dreadful yesterday, we could played that game for another 24 hours and we wouldn’t have scored!

That is the crux of the matter, we keep getting lumped with useless shithouses that take ages to get rid of.

No it isn’t, not even remotely. We demonstrated we could score by scoring against one of the favourites for the title. It would be like saying West Brom fans should be worried because both their goals resulted from goalkeeping errors. It was the opening game of the season and neither side created much of anything. Players, formations, tactics and all of that are still settling. The opposition were just exceptionally strong yesterday.

We should be worrying if this is still the case in a month or two.

We haven't tried to play sustained posession football since Warburton. In my opinion managers will get more latitude playing this way. Happy to invest more time to see it flower.

Very uncomfortable with the opinion Saturdays performance should draw any paralells with what Martin served up, the passing had more purpose & the running was more direct. How sad is it we're being encouraged to slate the manager because the last guy got dug out for his muddled approach.

Lamouchi does look to have a sustainable plan with a better player at the base, a striker who'll get out of bed & our best central midfielder back on the park. Definitely work to do, but the foundations are there.

The encouragement is to give managers time, not slate them. Hence the comparison of responses in the first game & statement "No, I'm glad there has been a far less agressive approach to Mouch than MON, and and would like it to stay that way."

It's not long before the sustainable plan you can see in 1 games turns into a baffling one, with Watson too old, Cash no RB, 442 a dinosaur formation etc from some.

Criticism is fair, but unless we're in a relegation battle Mouch should get the season IMO. It's more important that the club builds a genuine foundation of core players than owt else.
