    Default Sunderland Till I Die

Anyone else watched the Netflix doc on Sunderland last season?

Really painful watch at times actually. But well put together.

Thought the hate that Bains got from this is a bit extreme. Looks like a guy doing his best in horrendous circumstances.

Would have loved to have seen more actual behind the scenes stuff instead of just interviews. Such as dressing room access, tactical stuff, whatever else.

But it is very good, more of these and the Man City documentaries please. They are really good.

If you haven't already watch the Arizona Cardinals (which was the first) and Michigan All or Nothing shows. Don't need to be a fan of the sport to appreciate/enjoy them.

Sunderland did a similar docuseries in 97. Must be on YouTube. Got relegated in that one too.

Would interesting to compare. Be like watching old and new Star Wars in sequence.

I'd imagine some of the fans on there would also be seen on the Jeremy Kyle Show?

Premier Passions was done when the got promoted to the Prem in 97 it's on YouTube worth watching for Peter Reid's dressing room rants "Fucking weak as piss they are!"

Definitely went down in it, mate. It was Roker Park. We went down with them in 97. We were on, think it was 1-1 at Roker Park, Waddle was playing for them. Des Lyttle scored late in the yellow vom kit.

Peter Reid looked for players on transfer deadline day by looking through Rothmans yearbook.

But the new stadium announcement was in it too, so maybe it spanned both seasons.

Yeah sorry I meant the year after they got promoted! Didn't word it very well!

It's a classic, the fan's moaning that they don't want the team to pass it just want them to lump it forward.

I liked the announcement of the new stadium name. Makems stood outside for hours to hear it.

Then when it was announced there was just groans. Then somebody goes "Awwwwww they're just gonna call it the Stadium of Shite"

The Sheff Utd doc from the early nineties is good, if you want retro football documentaries

I've seen the first four episodes of the new one. Just feels like an end of season DVD with a few interviews tacked on.

    Still hilarious, though.

There's a Carlisle United one from the Michael Knighton era as well.

I'm going to catch up with this Sunderland doc over the holiday. I read a book called 'Blinded by the light' that follows one of Sunderlands relegation seasons, it was around the time of the new stadium so 96/97 season? Quite a good read.

Great support but not the highest attendance for the third tier. The Sheffield derby in 1979 at Hillsborough had something ridiculous like 59,000 there.

    They didn't

They got relegated with us and Boro in 96/97, Sunderland finished 3rd in 97/98 behind us and Boro, but lost the play off final to Charlton on penalties, they then ran away with the division the year after.

Very good documentary. Baine looked completely at the end of his rope and rightfully so.
