I watched a documentary on gambling at the weekend and there was on guy who claimed to make millions by "courtsiding" at the tennis by effectively finding games with an umpire who was slow to electronically update the scores. He was on a bluetooth saying "yes" to an accomplice who placed the bet before the point had been recorded. It was genius really but I'd imagine that the loophole has been well closed by now.

It used to work really well, but as with everything it gets hammered. Betting companies got wise to it and started enabling delays in placing the actual bets. They also paid venues to chuck out the offenders.

Of course you have to be live at the event to get close, think football is something like 10 seconds delay to place the bet, and sky sports is sometimes up to 21 seconds delayed so you've no chance of beating them from home.

I know racecourses hire out booths so people can beat the punters at home.

I still believe that radio is the fastest way of hearing what's going off at a live event... still at a few seconds

Betfair used to be really slow on late night south American football about 15 years ago... the game would be finished and the markets would still be open so youd pile in and they'd pay it.

Yeah, I've managed to nab a fair few quid over the years on racing results which had been run on Betfair. A couple in the UK too. Must happen like about 0.01% of the time though. Those I did catch were when I was working with a bookie and he'd have it up all day, everyday. Piss poor markets too with only about £50-£100 to nab.

My Dad was a professional Jockey in the 50's and going back further before technology, there was a gambler called Alex Bird.

Took the bookies to the cleaners and I think I'm right in saying he made most money by standing dead in line with the winning posts with one eye closed, any close/dead heat betting between horses whilst they were waiting for the photograph, he lumped it on.

Clever, astute man, won a fortune. He wrote books later.

I used to know a bookie who worked by betting on the dogs after he closed his shops, I had one dud tip out of about a dozen from him. He later made a living by placing bets for a footballer.

Luckily the season is 46 games long and not won in August. My clever plan is to lure you all into complacency, then rip up the table after Chrimbo

Thought I'd had some good results this weekend.

    In reality, utterly shit.

Thankfully Harvey is having even more of a stinker than me.

How the fuck is raymondo sitting 2nd?

Must be all that time well spent sitting in Wetherspoons

This is a proper game, a game of skill and judgement.

Cheers Harvey, looks like I've successfully joined your league - and been given 6pts for doing fuck all?!

    What happens next? lol!

Is there a particular day of the week I should visit it to get a prediction in?
Oh, and what the hell is it I'll be trying to predict?
