Default The LTLF Posters Season Review

Reading odd thoughts scattered around the place on people's opinion of the season, thought it'd be handy to have one thread where folk can swat 'em all together.

Did get me thinking how sometimes a good season can be down to just which games you get to. I rarely go away (odd local game) or to cup games anymore & got me thinking how that in itself has made 2018 awful, as the highlights have been 2 away games to Wolves & QPR, & the Arsenal cup tie.

Another season packed full of excuses and "yeah buts"

Break that cycle for starters and we might do something.

If its down to "fine margins" again make sure you are the side you want to be of that margin..... if you arent then YOU are not good enough, change.

Biggest thing this season is the club appears to be sorted off the pitch and that’ll help us push forward on the pitch.

    100% Rzarecteh

I could go into more detail but not sure it is worth it after another season where we probably should have kicked on a bit more than we did on the field because it needs to start happening fast. Just need everything to fall into place.
On the pitch there were a few good goals, few good moments but my favourite was Walker Jnr

Overall happy with how the club as a whole is progressing. We are in a better place now than we were this time last year, and the future looks brighter than it has for quite a while.

On the pitch, what I'll remember about this season is the Arsenal game. What an incredible night that was.

Other than that I'm grateful to have had another season of enjoying going to the football with my dad and my nephew.

It only takes a second to score a goal.

The club is moving (finally) into the 21st century off the field, after years - no, decades - of neglect.

Let us hope that success on the field of play follows.

„I believe in socialism because it seems more humanitarian, rather than every man for himself and 'I'm alright jack' and all those arsehole businessmen with all the loot. I made up my mind from viewing society from that angle. That's where I'm from and there's where I've made my decisions from. That's why I believe in socialism“

I just did the southern away games. Some brilliant displays in Brentford and QPR, a meh display at Fulham and a couple of poor ones, in particular Reading which was a shocker against what ultimately turned out to be a crap team. Chelsea was a lesson in football.

As already posted, off the pitch we are in a lot better state. This hopefully will translate to on the pitch.

I voted OK, purely on the premise I rock up every home game & a couple of away games with the same sense of euphoria I cant seem to get from anything else.

Football wise, see above when your looking to drag the positives from the way we've played. It aint all been bad though. Par for the course when you have one manager struggling to find consistency with his style of football replaced by another who rips it up & opts for a different style. Both with similar outcomes truth be told.

I seek solace in the fact we now have the pedigree off the pitch, we've got a manager who's working on the backbone, wont accept mediocrity & knows what it takes.

The moral being, Im happy to accept this season on the assumption we get a whole lot better next.

Poor season for me, Warbuton and Karanka were both poor. I was very unhappy with recruitment again this season. We had no option but to sell Assombolonga because of his release clause but out transfer targets and policy was shite to begin with. You do not add more inexperience to our squad especially as all the quality has been sold. We need a signing that in his prime.

I am disappointed with Karanka because he got seven players in and some stuff didn't change but he has less time then warbs and he will have to show what he is about in summer.

Overall anyway it's on the club ownership now. If you keep selling your quality players and expect results signing potential and people at the end of the careers then unless you have an outstanding manager you will only regress. We seriously lacked a centre half last summer and the attackers dropped off dramatically as the season went on.

I expected 60 points this year and considering we have the 11th highest budget I think in the championship I wouldn't have this down as a good season. I'd give it a D.

Top post that mate, especially regards the stylistic change.

It's been a slog, but hopefully that's the slog out of the way, and better times to come

    This season:
Wasn't happy when we sacked yet another manager. Well fed up with that bloody cycle. Could well have packed in there and then, decided to give it 'one more manager'.

Some dire performances / results. Very annoying, almost laughable at times, but what else is new? Never really unexpected, are they. It's what we are / have been. It's what needs to be changed first, to stop losing to sides we really, really shouldn't lose to.

Despite the above we have ended up 'better placed' than last season. That's an improvement then.

    Next season:
Not expecting to get off to a flyer at all. After first six games will then be looking for not losing to teams we shouldn't lose to. With that millstone lifted off the clubs shoulders we can look to go forwards. Finish 10th with 12 pts more than this time around and I'll be happy we're really able to press on from there.

Well at least this season, unlike last, I managed to get through the season finale without my heart rate spiking to 106, even though I never left the sofa.

    That, if anything, is progress.

Hey Alf', not voted in poll as none of the choices quite suit me.

Put me down as 'Generally got as expected with a couple of mind numbing occurrences thrown in'.

I'm just so glad it's all over now, and we can start to re-shape things for the better.

It's been a pretty downbeat year so far. A few swift good signings will hopefully get the momentum rolling early.

Really hope that we have most of our business done when the lads get back to training, so that AK can have as much time as poss to shape them as a unit.

I've seen pro's & cons of AK, but one of his pros is that he doesn't fuck about. Figgy's signing is a great example of how much more efficiant we are all-round now. Time to make that count. Next season can get fucking ready!

Can I take objection at the poll?

Poor, more a test than a pleasure: Cotterill
    Awful. Thoroughly hated it: Megson

I believe Cotterill should be next to Megson. The "Poor" analogy lends better to Dougie.

Don't get me wrong I hate the 'working progress' tiresome excuse, but it takes more than a season to sort out the mess that is Nottingham Forest.

Karanka is a great manager for this level, and he's already begun the clear out of players and more will come, so he has HIS squad, and the players he's brought in so far have been positive signings.
If we DON'T get Tomlin (which I don't think we should pin our hopes on him being our saviour), then no worry, I'm sure the manager has plenty of others in mind.

For once, I have faith in a manager to steer us in the right direction.

This season was all about preparing for next season.

Going to be even more difficult next year:

Wolves, Cardiff, Fulham, Sunderland, Burton, Barnsley

    Being replaced by:

    WBA
    Stoke
    Swansea or Southampton
    Wigan
    Blackburn
    +1

It's going to be a tough Championship next season definitely.

The teams that are coming down are well-run and have very few off-the-field problems, unlike the likes of Sunderland, Villa etc.

Anyone thinking that if Karanka is backed top six will be easy is in for a rude awakening.

If the second half of this season is an indicator of next season following Karankas appointment then anything above mid table will be a bonus.

Karanka certainly hasn't come in and grabbed the club by the scruff of the neck.

My personal opinion is that we have been poorer in the second half of the season, especially considering the greater expense incurred.

We are now relying upon Vrentos and Karanka alone for player recruitment rather than having a dedicated person for that role which I think is a big step backwards.

Unfortunately, I doubt that we will have the same manager in place at the end of the season as we do at the start.

Another season of missed opportunities beckons.

We do have a dedicated person for the role, Luke Dowling.

    Disagree with all of that.

If culling alot of the shit in January, replacing it with experience down the spine & introducing Lolleys fire out wide aint taking the club by the scruff, I dont know what is.

Divisive as to whether its worked, but like Warburton before him, you dont always improve short term when your reinstalling a different mindset into a random set of players.

As for recruitment, Karanka, Vrentsos & Dowling have all the pedigree of a marked improvement on Warburton & his best mate, Summer recruitment hit rate was poor. We'll likely get more money but we'll also likely get a much better return for it.
