    Default Ken Dodd RIp

Passed away last night. The last of the great variety artists. Not everyone's cup of tea but the bloke was at the top of his profession for 60 od years playing to packed out audiences night after night. Topped the Palladium on several occasions and had no1 hit records.
    RIP

Absolutely top draw razor sharp lightning fast comedian, could sing fabulously and was multi talented using props puppets and ventriloquism, his recall of jokes was amazing and he could and did carry on for hours on end,it was known caretakers would throw the theatres keys on to the stage,so Dodd could lock up after he'd finished his act.One of a kind,a very sad day for British comedy RIP Ken Dodd.

Very much a TV icon of my childhood in the 60s. I never saw one one of his adult live shows but I believe they were excellent. RIP.

Just got married a couple of days ago too at the ripe old age of 90.

    Good innings sir. RIP

What a lovely day to shove some ice cubes down your wife's dress and say "here's that new chest freezer you wanted!"

Not a single swear word or vulgarity but absolutely hilarious and a genuine rare talent - he's the last of his kind.

I love that he got married 2 days before he died, presumably as a final two fingers gesture to HMRC who can't claim inheritance tax on an estate left to a spouse..

    RIP Ken.

By "relegation battle", do you mean 7th, 12th or 14th?

RIP Ken, proper old school and a gentleman. Great entertainer and could belt out a tune or two.

Always remember the tax dodging joke doing the rounds back in the day.

    Sad day.
Probably the great comedian of my childhood.
Many current comedians who rely on vulgarity and derision could learn a lesson here.

The best tweet I have seen so far said "Ken Dodd sadly passed away on Sunday. His funeral will be on Wednesday, Thursday, Friday and Saturday!".
Saw him once at the old Commodore Rooms donkey's years ago - stunning evening.
One of those evenings when the jokes were coming so fast, and were so funny that your sides did actually ache with the laughter.

the only comedian i've been to see live and saw him twice

very very very special decent, natural, warm, loving guy

i think he has probably performed at every town and city in the UK

i think for me the unique quality he had was the laughter through sadness, he had a philosophy and would share it sprinkled with jokes, but there was that feeling that laughter helped cope with the futility and sadness we face in life, fun and optimism but sometimes with a tear in his eye

rest those chuckle muscles my friend and thanks for laughter and warmth only you could combine to add a special meaning to your performance

Scouse ****. About time. Tax dodging *******.

In all seriousness, a great comedian from another age.

When I moved to Liverpool I couldn't beleive that Knotty Ash was an actual place. I was disappointed there were no Jam Buttie Mines or Treacle Wells but made up to find that Dodd's house was known as Diddy-Land.

Yes, of course. Liverpool is full of Black Pudding Plantations.

Was there much coverage of his death in Nottingham? He really made his name on the Nottingham circuit when he was in his 20s.

Yes, to be fair East Midlands today and Central News did a little tribute regarding Doddy's Nottingham career.
